Motivation Monday: Sometimes You Just Need to Take a Break

Happy Monday evening folks!

I almost forgot today was Monday #oops! It’s the first holiday weekend of the summer here in Canada. We call it Victoria Day in honour of Queen Victoria’s Birthday and informally it marks the beginning of summer for us. The weather this year has totally cooperated, bringing us sunny, clear skies and temperatures in the 80’s, so I spent it watching my kids do this:

All in all, as I wrote on Thursday, this past week wasn’t that great exercise wise. After last weekend’s 10k race, my hamstrings felt really tight, and I could feel a hamstring origin strain coming on (aka – a big pain in the butt, literally). So I’ve rested, and taken a bit of a social media break as well, and found some relaxation in a really really good book *blush*.Sometimes you just need to take a break in order to re-evaluate your goals, your plans and recharge you batteries:

Now of course I felt guilty for all of my relaxing, so I went to BodyPump class on Wednesday, a 7k run on Sunday, and a 7k run this morning. My hammy’s are still a bit tight, but they’re doing better, which means its full steam ahead next week marking the beginning of my sprint triathlon training for the Ontario Women’s Triathlon that I’m doing in early September. It also marks the beginning of training for my next half marathon (TBA).

So without further adieu, here is my plan:

Monday (today): 7k run – done!
Tuesday: Swimming laps after the kids go to bed
Wednesday: lunch BodyPump class
Thursday: 8k lunch run
Friday: Swimming laps after the kids go to bed
Saturday: 10k easy run
Sunday: BodyPump

In two weeks I’ll be doing the 75k ride for heart, so I better work on getting my hands on a bike. (Yes – I don’t own a bike, yet…). The ride will have to be done based on my existing endurance, and not on my cycling skills because the only cycling I’ve done this year is in spinning class.

    Aren’t breaks and guilty pleasure reading the best thing since sliced bread? Good for you for taking full advantage of them. Did you join your daughter in the sprinklers? That picture made me smile.

    I went hiking this weekend and loved being out in nature and surrounded by the native plants. It also helped me work off a small percentage of the brunch buffet I downed a couple hours before. Note to self: Buffets = Over eating!

    Sounds like a great weekend was had!!!
    I spent Saturday doing a photo shoot at the beach, trying to raise money, went to church then Sunday spent day working/cleaning at home

    Woow.. what a lovely weekend you’ve had there. I didn’t do much special this weekend, only went to the cinema, was fun tho!

    It sounds like your break was much needed and much deserved; enjoy the rest… after a 10K a few days off is probably exactly what you’re body needs 🙂

    Your weekend must have been full of fun. It is very true that sometimes we have to take a break from the day to day busy schedules. It helps the mind relax and just think about some other things.
