Motivation Monday: The Healthy Family

This is my Mamavation Monday post for June 13, 2011.

Hey guys!

Why yes! That is me and my celebrity boyfriend, Jonathan Knight!

How are you? My week was long…. And exciting (I MET NKOTB!).  I didn’t get all the workouts in that I had planned but that’s ok.  I could list a whole pile of excuses but the truth is that I just didn’t make working out the priority.  On the plus side, I ran a 5k on Sunday and finished 9th in my age group and set a new personal best!

Hubby is FINALLY home this week (he was in LA the past 2 weeks), and my workout buddy is back too so it’s time to buckle down.

This week my workout plan is:

Mon: 6 am weights at the gym with my workout buddy, 5k run with the kids
Tues:  6 am BodyPump (Amber has her well baby check up so I can’t go to my regular 9:30 class)
Wed: 6 am weights at the gym, 5k run with the kids
Thurs: Off
Fri: 6 am weights  at they gym
Sat: 10k long SOLO run
Sun: 5k easy SOLO run

This week our blogging carnival  prompt is:

How often do you and your family eat meals together and get active together?

Well because my hubby travels a lot for work, and often works late (as in he’s only home to have dinner with us on Saturdays and Sundays) I have family meals with the kids all the time.  I had a hard time getting the kids to stay still with me at the big adult table, so I bought a Little Tykes picnic table and put it in our kitchen.  I squeeze in and sit with them at their table – they love it!  I think that little things like having a picnic every night makes being a family fun for the kids.  Occasionally I even serve a dinner full of picnic foods – like sandwiches and grapes and cheese etc. instead of a hot cooked meal.

And of course we’re active together – I posted a list of our activities here before, and I recently shared a video of Amber and I exercising together.  The more you involve the kids the easier it is to find time to workout.  The kids love the attention too!

I honestly believe in being the change you wish to see, and for me that’s by being a role model to my children – being active with them, and eating the foods that I want THEM to eat.

Congratulations to our Sister of the Week Pamela Kramer! I’ve been following Pam’s healthy living journey for over a year now and I really like her consistency and dedication – I love you Pam!!

Have a fantastic week ladies!

Wow! You really do have a plan! It is a VERY good reminder for me cuz I’ve slowwwwwwwwly slipped from my planning. I’ve been pretty good about still MOVING even on my own and squeezing it in, but I think a plan will bump up the intensity! So – I’ll do cross fit tomorrow and I’ll see my trainer on Wednesday. But that’s as far as I’ve gotten – ha!

Yes – I strongly believe that fitness doesn’t just happen – you need to set goals, plan and follow the plan!!

great plan and love you sit at the ‘little’ table w/the kids…I used to do that when my little ones were little…now it’s hard to get teen to sit still long enough to eat together. I missed few workouts this past weekend, went out of town for a wedding and kinda just walked around leisurely and basked in the sun. Back to it today!

Argh! I’m not looking forward to those crazed teenage hormones – please tell me there are good things about them too?!

lol there are some good things about teens…boy’s are ‘easier’ as far as moods/etc….my son’s 22…
girls…combination of hormonal changes, social lives, whats cool/whats not, etc. creates much havoc…my daughters 15 and moods can change from minute to minute 🙁 and while some of her friends like me, at times she doesn’t 🙁 everyone tells me it gets better w/girls…so I’m still waiting for the ‘better’ phase

I love hearing about your family fitness fun 🙂 your girls are ADORABLE and have such a great role model!

I never thought about moving the kids table into the kitchen but that is brilliant… mine are older now and are accustomed to the grown up table so it worked out, but I can remember the “ants in your pants” days… Thanks for the tip 🙂

I love that you are passionate about NKOTB still after all these years!! Just another fun fact about you that makes you YOU and fun! 🙂 Great week… and great game plan! I need to get my week planned out: failure to plan is planning to fail… and I am not planning to fail 🙂

    Have a great week! 🙂

What a great workout plan you have.

I also love that you go down to their level to eat dinner with them at night. When my husband worked second we still had dinner as a family on weekends but I made sure even when he was not home I still had dinner with them as a family.

NKOTB was one of my all time favorite boy bands back in the day and you are so lucky to meet them! I think I still have a few of their wall posters lying around somewhere also. Also congrats on the marathon.

I am giddy for you that you got to meet NKOTB again. I know how much you lurve them. Also yippee that your hubs is home and you are not solo-parenting like you have been the last two weeks. Have a great time playing and fulfilling your workout schedule.

I just did a Google search for “NKOTB workout” and this popped up 🙂 I was at the Chicago concert last night and it was amazing! Anyway, I was looking for inspiration for a NKOTB playlist for workouts because I need to get moving!

Excellent plan. I will organize like yours and lets see what will happen. Hopefully my family will like it too.
