Oh How I Love Me Some #Runch

(This is  Day 2  of the August Healthy Living / Fitness Blogger Writing Challenge – if you’re playing along on your blog, then add a comment below with a link to your post, and be sure to visit some of the other blog posts linked up so that we can all support and et to know each other).

Well before I even had kids I began using my one hour lunch breaks from work to sneak away to the GoodLife  gym  across the street from my work. I then changed jobs, and again, I lifted weights on my lunches at another GoodLife  location, and trained for marathons and half-marathons before or after work. (Mostly after because even back then I wasn’t great at waking up early). Then hubby and I moved to a small town, and I got a new job in an industrial complex which was nowhere near a gym, and since hubby and I were carpooling, I couldn’t even drive to a gym.

Enter the #runch.

#Runch – a quick run squeezed in over lunch break

For 7 of the past 12 years I have spent my lunch breaks running or working out one way or another. I’m not a morning person (did I ever tell how funny my husband thought it was that I had to be at that Ride for Heart 2 months ago at 6 am?) and save for races, I don’t often see the sunny-side of 7 am. I just can’t get up early, no matter how early I go to bed.

Oh How I Love Me Some #Runch!

Post-runch, all sweaty!

The lunch run – ahhhhhhh  what would I do without it?   My poor co-workers and family wouldn’t stand a chance in trying to tame my grumps  if it weren’t for #Runch time.   Thank goodness my employer is so amazing and flexible!!

Question/Sharing:
When do you workout?

I runch all the time… it works better than evenings OR mornings for me. Today I posted about a different kind of workout (that I did on an extended Tuesday Lunch hour): http://ironrogue.blogspot.ca/2012/07/alternative-workouts-gravity-machine.html

It’s the West Metro location at 185 the West Mall, Etobicoke. Unfortunately, their website doesn’t have a dedicated page to either the class or the club itself.

It’s fabulous that you can do that! I’m a speech-language pathologist working in an elementary school, so I guess I “runch” because I’m eating my lunch as I run around putting out fires, checking email, etc. 🙂 But I have a question: does your employer have a locker room where you can shower? After my run, my hair is soaking, and I am a sweaty, dripping mess. I can’t imagine having to go back to work like that! I think more employers, (and I speak for the US because that’s where I live) should make it easier for their employees to work out before, during, or after work – it definitely would increase productivity! Thanks for all your sage wisdom, advice, and humor, Janice!

I love the Runch concept….hope when I get back to work, I can pull that off as well. Currently, I am just trying to make summer home with the kids work. It’s harder than I would have thought.

I love the word Runch. I love when I’m out doing things around lunch time and I see people obviously squeezing in a lunch workout. I want to yell out my window and cheer them on.

I didn’t blog about my workout timing today – but I did blog for day 2 of the challenge. http://familyfitnessfood.com/cross-fit-sweaty-mess-amazing-workout/

To answer the question – I prefer mornings, but I’ll take anytime. I just want to get in the workout.

I always want to cheer on people like that, too! When I go running and see another person exercising, I feel like I should high-five them or something. 🙂

Well my “morning” workouts are probably more around the runch time for many. When I say mornings I mean between 9 and 11. I’ve tried all sorts of times, especially while I was still working at the gym. But by far my optimal time is an hour after a light breakfast. http://busymommawellness.com/why-morning-workouts/
