My 3 Favourite Olympic Commercials

Hooray the Winter Olympics are here!!! The Winter Olympics always remind me of the trip hubby and I took to Las Vegas 12 years ago (back before we were married there). We went with another young couple during the Winter Olympics and had to nag several bars to put on the Olympics (in particular any Canada/US match up: Men's & Women's Curling & the Men's & Women's Hockey). In one small bar we taught the locals all the rules of “shuffleboard on ice” (curling). It was a fantastic trip!

Here we are 12 years later and the Winter Olympics is still my favourite thing to watch on TV. My favourite sport to watch is the women's hockey. That said, I find that the commercials can be as entertaining as the sports.

I'm sure you're all familiar with Proctor & Gamble Thank You Mom commercial that makes me cry every time I see it:

But there are other great commercials too, like the Canadian Tire We All Play For Canada commercial.

I cry every.single.time I see the mom tying her kid's skates. I wonder why?

The other commercial that I've been digging is the Sport Chek What It Takes commercials:

Obviously the commercials about the journey from child to Olympian are the ones that touch my heart. As a child-athlete and now a mom to 3 young athletes it's a journey I can appreciate (I'm typing this on my iPad while watching my middle daughter at her 3rd hockey practice this weekend!). It takes hours upon hours of practices, games & dry land training to become a world class athlete and I'm in awe of all the great athletes at the Olympics and their parents that have taken the journey.

Edit: thank you to Tamara for sharing this commercial with me, now I'm craving OREO cookies!

Although I don't know what Viasat is, this commercial featuring the song “Wake Me Up” by Aviici is pretty cool too:

Question: What is your favourite Olympic commercial?

PS – Thank you to all of my new SITS blogging friends for stopping by!

The commercials are excellent! You know these kids couldn’t have done it without the support of Mom and Dad! Their heart is in the win for their athlete too!

Agreed! I think it takes a lot of work for parents to raise an Olympian too – there are so many sacrifices.

It’s hard to pick just one as they are all very well done. I have to agree with you that the Thank you Mom is my fave as well. It seems every time you see an athlete on TV you see them mouth, “Hi Mom.” I guess as mothers we do tend to sacrifice more for our children than fathers do, but fathers also play a big role in an athlete’s life. They are usually the ones who get up very early on Saturday mornings in the dead of winter to take their sons or daughters to hockey practice. They are also right beside the Moms yelling encouragement to their athletes and taking on the role of coaches. A lot of Moms are coaches as well.

Good point the dads are definitely not getting enough credit for their role.

I’m partial to the Thank You Mom commercial. I’m a mom of four, all who are (or have been) an athlete in their chosen sport. There is no place I would rather be than watching my child practice or play. We are very much a sports family through and through! I love watching the Olympics!

I don’t really follow the Olympics but I know there is a lot of excitement going to about them this week. And because I never turn on the TV I haven’t seen any Olympic commericals but those were really cute!

I haven’t seen the Olympics yet and I am hoping to catch up via YouTube this weekend. I’m rooting for the lone Philippine representative for Figure Skating. 🙂

I have to admit that I haven’t watched any of the Olympics yet. Just haven’t had time to. So I haven’t really seen any of the commercials. I do like the one with the girl on the ice skates, thanks for putting up the YouTube videos so I could see them.

That last commercial was awesome – we don’t have that one here!!
I do love the ones with the Moms helping from the beginning to develop them into at the athletes that they later become.

I love Olympics commercials!! I’m in the US, so I hadn’t seen the We All Play for Canada one — that’s awesome! I had to smile when I saw the ages of your daughters. I have 3 boys, ages 8, 6, and 3-next-month. 🙂 #SITSBlogging

Wow, I really need to pay attention to these commercials! I haven’t been – it’s like the Super Bowl but for the Olympics – except these commercials are all heart-warming and melt you! That first ad, aw man. Actually brings back a lot of memories, because I used to competitively snowboard!

They have a ton here that show team USA members now, and then play backwards, college, HS, all the way to when they were little kids. They are great commercials.
