It’s been quite a while since I last participated in Peas and Crayons’ WIAW even though I’ve been meaning to for quite some time. I like that I discover some great new-to-me bloggers and recipes through this weekly meme, and also that it forces me to be creative in my own kitchen to find some great meals to share with you. As I’ve mentioned before, this meme also helps me to be accountable – it’s hard to participate if our family meals consist solely of Mac n Cheese (Kraft Dinner) and hot dogs…. One of my Fall Goals was to meal plan (and participate in Laura’s weekly Meal Plan Linky) so WIAW ties in perfectly as well.
Today I’m going to share with you my Saturday. My friend Christine threw a BBQ at her place to welcome fall. Her boyfriend was away at a stag in Vegas so the ladies (and kids) got together at Christine’s for a nice BBQ.
The food we ate was amazing!
I started the day by inhaling a wonderful mixed berry/banana/vegan vanilla protein smoothie made with almond milk:
I then went for a run: 9k solo + 15k with Juliette. Afterwards I showered (and stretched in the shower), then quickly got dressed and took my youngest two daughters out to do a little shopping. My middle daughter, Brooke, needed new running shoes, and I needed new heels for work. I had a 15% off coupon for PayLess Shoes, and their Comfort Plus heels were on special ($19.99).
I love love love the PayLess Comfort Plus shoes – they really are comfy!
After shoe shopping I dragged the girls to WalMart to get some fresh buns and cold cuts for lunch, and the ingredients I needed to make the dessert I was planning to make for Christine’s BBQ. We then went home and enjoyed our delicious lunch on the fresh buns:

After lunch I began prepping the dessert that I was bringing to the BBQ. I figured that because it was officially fall an apple dessert was in order, so I choose to bring my Apple Caramel Skor Dip. I honestly haven’t made this dessert in 10 years because I just can’t control how much of it I eat. The last time I made it was for an end of the year softball party and I was pregnant with my oldest daughter Sierra (she’s now 9.5 years old).
Cream cheese, brown sugar, caramel, Skor chocolate bars and apples. This dessert is always a big hit!
To prep I blended brown sugar and cream cheese in my Blendtec Blender:
I then used my Slap Chop to crush the Skor chocolate bars.
Afterwards I packed the apples, crushed Skor bars, cream cheese mixture, and caramel in a cooler bag to bring to the BBQ. I just used pre-packed Apple slices for this dessert because it’s easier, but you can prepare the apples yourself, here’s a great tutorial on how to keep your slices from turning brown:
After the baseball game we headed to the BBQ. Once we arrived, Brooke immediately went to find the puppy. My friend Christine has a Portuguese Water Dog puppy that my daughter Brooke absolutely LOVES. She can sit there for hours cuddling the puppy and I’m pretty sure the puppy likes it too:
The BBQ started with this delicious appetizer made by my friend Julie (aka The Fluudbloggler):

While enjoying Julie’s appetizer, we had a great time discussing our friend Laura’s upcoming wedding and some pretty fun Stagette ideas. Then it was time for dinner! Christine made BBQ beer can chicken and a quinoa salad, and Juliette made thinly sliced potatoes with cheese and bacon (a Canadian party is never complete without bacon):
(I can’t remember who brought the salad).
And then it was time for me to finish putting together dessert. First I smoothed out all of the brown sugar and cream cheese mixture on the serving plate:
Then I layered a cup of caramel on top, followed by sprinkling the crushed Skor chocolate bar:
Lastly I neatly arranged the apple slices around the perimeter of the dip:
