New Balance Vazee Pace Review #AlwaysInBeta

A few weeks ago I was sent a beautiful pair of New Balance Vazee Pace shoes to review. I would have shared my thoughts on these earlier but my feet take a few runs to get used to a new pair of shoes. It doesn’t matter which pair of shoes I switch to, I initially get blisters on my arches from them. Over time my gait either changes for the shoe, or my feet adjust or whatever happens, but after 5 or 6 runs the blistering stops and I then have a better chance to decide if the shoes will work for me or not. If my feet adjust, then they work, if they don’t then the shoes get used to mow the lawn. Spoiler: These shoes will never be worn to mow the lawn.

Here’s my New Balance Vazee Pace Review:

I wore these for the Monday Night Mile race when we were in Saratoga Springs a few weeks back. You may remember in my race recap that I mentioned there was a race announcer calling the race. He didn’t know any of our names, and because no one in the stands could see our bib numbers from so far away, he described each runner by something that visually would help to find the runner he was referring to. I was the “speedy lady in the speedy bright yellow shoes”. After the race runners approached me to congratulate me on my race – they recognised me by my awesome shoes.

I placed third in my age group in that race and ran my fastest mile ever!

Fit and Feel:

As mentioned before, I got a small blister on my left arch the first time I wore these shoes.  This wasn’t all that unexpected because that’s just how my feet are.  I’ve worn these shoes for most of my runs now and have found them to be a comfortable fit.  The heel is snug, but not too snug and the toe box is roomy enough for my feet.  They have a sock-like design to them, and they feel comfy like a sock.  Don’t let that fool ya though, these also have a fair amount of stability to them unlike other sock style shoes I’ve worn before.  These would make a perfect shoe for doing longer speedwork or tempo runs in, though for a longer endurance building run I would choose something a bit heavier and stable.  These are noticeably lighter than the Mizuno Wave Rider 18’s I wear on my longer training runs.  I would definitely wear these to race in and will probably wear them in October when I run the ScotiaBank Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon. You know the saying: Train heavy, race light.

Overall I really like these shoes.  I’ve been looking for a light weight, but supportive shoe to wear for my next race, and I’ve found all of those things in the New Balance Vazee Pace.  I highly recommend these if you’re looking for a neutral shoe for your next race!

Disclosure: I was sent a pair of New Balance Vazee Pace shoes to try with no obligation to review them. These are my honest thoughts and feeling about these shoes.

I really like the cool shoes New Balance is coming out with. I struggle to find a pair that works for me, but I’m super intrigued by these ones. Also?! I looove the brightness!

Agreed! My bestie used to be a manager at a running store and over the past year she has been bringing home the cutest gear from New Balance – I LOVE the bright colours, especially for morning runs!

I love the look of these! Brighter is better for me when it comes to shoes. But I haven’t had good luck with New Balance in the past.
