Summer Chat, Ladies Lunch and a Review of Wendy’s New Salads #NewSaladCollection #Wendys

WendysSaladsSlogan

A week ago, I took my best running friend Juliette out for a nice relaxing (kid-free!) ladies lunch at Wendy’s to try out their new salads.  They have three new salads that are 50% lower in fat grams, 29% lower in sodium, and 61% lower in saturated fat.

Wendy’s new salads are:

Asian Cashew Chicken,
BBQ Ranch Chicken
and Taco Supremo Salads.

Wendy’s is a leader in the salad business – they were the first restaurant to bring the salad bar to quick service customers more than 30 years ago!  So when I heard that they had new salads to try well, I just had to try them with my friend Juliette.

Somehow our chat about running, how much we hate winter running and wearing 3-4 layers of running gear, turned into a much more fun discussion of all of our great plans for summer (did someone say cottage?!).  As we talked and planned, Juliette had the BBQ Ranch Chicken Salad in the full-sized portion. (Wendy’s offers both half and full-sized portions).

  • BBQ Ranch Chicken
    • Savory backyard BBQ in a bowl
    • Uses premium ingredients that you see around your grill, such as fire roasted corn, freshly diced tomatoes, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon, and a honey BBQ sauce.
    • Served with a BBQ Ranch dressing, made with real buttermilk, parmesan cheese, ancho chili peppers, honey and brown sugar.

Yummy yummy 100% premium all white chicken breast meat that is freshly grilled on site!

And in between my discussion of my summer race goals, the camps the girls are signed up for, and our plans for summer pool parties, I had the Asian Cashew Chicken Salad:

  • Asian Cashew Chicken
    • Spicy
    • Not your typical canned fruit and ginger dressing
    • Uses on trend ingredients such as fire roasted edamame, fresh red peppers and cucumbers, a lettuce blend of 11 different kinds of greens and a light Asian Chili Vinaigrette dressing
    • Delicious and nutritious – only 370 calories!

Mmmmmmmm…  tomatoes, cucumbers, and red peppers sliced by hand in the restaurant!

We talked and laughed, and enjoyed our kid-free lunch, just like these ladies:

We really had a great time discussing our summer plans and schedules as we momentarily felt like it WAS summer with our made FRESH in store salads.  (All Wendy’s salads are prepared fresh in the restaurants every day, and each is topped with warm chicken or chili when the customer orders it.)

I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for a good salad –  And the salads from Wendy’s were GOOD!

When we go out for dinner, that’s what I usually order.  Juliette and I agreed that the salads that we had were definitely restaurant quality, far superior than any salad we’ve ever had at a fast food restaurant.  They are bold in flavour and vibrant in colour, with on trend premium ingredients like Cashews and edamame that you wouldn’t expect to find in salads at quick service restaurants.  You have to take our word for it, after all between the two of us we have well over 20 years experience working in the restaurant industry, so we’ve eaten A LOT of salads!  With three new salads – and even freshened-up dressings – Wendy’s is proving that salad innovation is never out of style.

Now it’s your turn…
When was the last time you went out for lunch with your best friend?
What did you talk about with your friend?
What are your summer plans?

I go out to lunch almost daily! I am going out to lunch with my WING WOMAN today too actually 🙂 We are hitting up a new spot too, which I am excited about.

I cannot even remember if I have ever been to Wendy’s before in my life, but I am happy to see they have salad options that can be modified to fit anyones diet 🙂

I love Wendy’s for their salads… I would eat them without the dressings though… there is so much flavor in everything that is on them..

It has been a really long time since I have gone out to lunch with a friend… probably 10 years, wow… I need to change that.

Have a really great weekend Janice 🙂

That’s awesome that they created some lower calorie and sodium salads! I have always loved Wendy’s salads but I knew they were high calories.

It’s probably been a month since I’ve had lunch with a friend. We don’t have many Wendy’s around here any more, but those salads look pretty good.
