Coffee, Fitness Survival Kits and Sleep – Oh My!

Hey guys!  I’m happy to report that I finally have an answer regarding my bout of vertigo…. I had the flu which caused my blood pressure to fall –  I wasn’t drinking enough water for my fever, so I got a bit dehydrated, and as a result I was insanely dizzy. I also got pink eye, and then ALL three of the kids got sick. And my hubby.  We’ve been a fun bunch lately, thank goodness we had nowhere to go this weekend.

So tonight’s post is a major catch up post, where I try to cover all three September blogging challenge topics that I’ve missed while sick:

Day 21 Are you a coffee drinker?

Do I drink coffee?  Uh… do cows moo?  Yes – I drink coffee, and probably way too much of it 🙂  This is me, just about to get my game face on, while enjoying my morning cup of coffee:

And this is me, several hours later, all ready to tackle the world, thanks to my morning coffee:

We have a rule in our house – no whining until Mommy has had her coffee…

Day 22 What would you put in your fitness survival kit?

So now it’s time to move onto my fitness survival kit. In August I shared a picture of what’s in my gym bag:

I would have to say, that’s pretty much my fitness survival kit:

  • socks
  • shoes
  • shorts
  • tank top, and
  • an iPhone

… Especially the iPhone because of all the great fitness apps available. Into cross-fit? There’s a WOD (workout of the day) app. Into Yoga? There are yoga apps. Into body weight strength training? Nike’s Training Club app has got ya covered.

Day 23 How many hours do you sleep at night?

And last…. Yawn…. But not least – Sleep. I’m a 7 hrs +/night kinda person.  Which is why I cannot get up early to workout.  Most nights I stay up too late writing blog posts, tinkering with plugins, hanging out at fitblog chats etc… Which is why I have a hard time waking up before 7, and why I look so whacked out first thing in the morning (see above).

That said, I NEED to start waking up earlier. Traffic getting to work has been horrendous lately and I need to leave earlier in order to get to work on time.  As well, I’d love to do my workouts BEFORE work so that I can take a shorter lunch and work an extra 30 min/day in order to earn a compressed day off.  I spend 2.5hrs/day travelling to and from work, and I’ve learned over the last week, the stress of commuting can really wear down your immune system.  It’s been a LONG time since I’ve been this sick, so it would be nice to earn an extra day off of work each month to recharge my batteries, catch up on housework etc.

Yawn… It’s time for me to get to sleep and try to catch up from this weekend of looking after sick kiddos…

    This morning I rolled out of bed at 4AM so I could get to the Y for a swim at 5. It wasn’t so bad! No traffic! Too early for those guys selling whatever they are selling in front of the McDonalds. Now to see if I crash and burn before 5PM.

    Wow, I hate when that happens..everyone getting sick. glad you got your vertigo figured out. That’s scary stuff.

    I’m like you..I’m a late night person. I study and write my posts then so working out in the morning is a pipedream. I might try to start again soon but I’ve never had much luck with it.

    Always has been a coffee drinker. But not just in the morning. But also at lunch and whenever I want to relax and refresh. How many time do you drink coffee in a day?
