A List of My Bad Eating Habits and My Plan to Break Them (aka How You Can Help Me reach My Goals)

Accountability. I talked last week about how reporting to you guys on my blog keeps me accountable, but I haven’t been completely honest with you about everything. You see, I talk the talk, but I don’t always walk the walk. Yes that makes me human, but it doesn’t mean it’s completely ok, so I thought I would out myself, come out of the closet and confess to my bad habits, while at the same time creating a plan to break them. They say that sharing your goals is a great way to achieve them which I totally agree with.

So below is a list of my bad habits, why I feel they’re “bad” and my plan to break them.

How to create good eating habits:

Bad Habit



Sugar cereal for breakfast Too much sugar, not enough nutrients and protein, causes a mid-morning sugar crash. Green protein smoothie for breakfast (spinach, berries, ½ a banana, milk, chia, 1 scoop of protein)
Mid-morning muffin with my coffee Too much sugar, not enough nutrients and protein, causes a lunch time sugar crash. Greek yogurt (like Chobani), handful of nuts, carrots or cucumber slices.
Buying my lunch While I do buy healthy stuff (hard boiled eggs, tuna sandwiches, yogurt, apples, salad etc), I ‘m spending way too much money: Make my lunch (and mid-morning snack) at home every night before bed. Being able to do this will depend on me actually going to the grocery store and BUYING the stuff I need for my lunch.
Quick pre-packaged dinners High sodium, low nutrients, and a whole pile of other bad things. Get back to the basics. Plan a weekly meal plan of simple dinners. Buy the groceries. Make the dinners the night before and pop them in the microwave.
Alcohol and bed time snacks (pretzels, chips etc) Empty calories I don’t drink soda, but I have a craving for “bubbles” every night after the kids go to bed. Healthier bed time snacks. Carbonated water and fruit would satisfy my cravings and offer less calories and more nutrients.

Can you see how the cycle of failing to plan and sugar-crash-sugar-crash-sugar keeps me from making smart food choices?

It’s time for me to create some GOOD HABITS!


Last night, after putting the kids to bed, I took my shopping list to the grocery store and purchased the food I need to get back on track, and even packed a lunch and snacks for myself:

    I’m right there with you! Although, while I’ve determined my unhealthy habits in my daily eats, I haven’t found great alternatives yet. That’s up next! You can do it 🙂

    I totally agree GOOD habits can be addictive too. I replaced most of my bad habits with good ones and for the most part I do well. My “bad eating habits” are:
    –alcohol/aka wasting calories on drinks
    –eating dinner out more than just once a week (especially in the summer time)

    We share many of the same bad habits…and so much of it has to do with planning ahead (e.g. to pack a lunch, to have healthier evening snack options). Looking forward to following your progress and getting more tips!

    i have a few of those bad habits myself, i do protien smoothies sometimes with fruit and protien powder, my other downfall is getting lattes and the bakery goods more than i should at the coffee shop. ive tried to get away from those pre packaged meals but its tough when im way for work for several days at a time
