Throwing it Back with Netflix: Everything Old is New Again #StreamTeam

Disclosure:  This post is part of my participation in the NetFlix #StreamTeam program.

One thing I love about being a parent is introducing my girls to things that I used to love as a kid: Softball, field hockey, soccer and lacrosse were some of my favourite past times, and are all sports that the girls are now starting to try out for themselves. It’s like my job as a parent is to share my past with them. Sharing my sports really helps me to feel connected with the girls – it’s fun to play catch together and to chat about their games.  That said, we all need some down time too, and sharing some good ol’ nostalgia with the kids on a rainy Thursday night when soccer is cancelled is another great way for me to connect with them:

All cuddled up watching a Classic Sesame Street episode on NetFlix with my youngest, Amber.

This month’s theme on NetFlix is Throwback Thursday, and there are a lot of great shows and movies from my past on NetFlix that I’ve been sharing with my girls. Some favourites are the Facts of Life, and Diff’rent Strokes – It’s so cute to hear the girls say:

“Whatchu talkin’ ‘bout Willis?”!

They also really think it’s really funny that I know ALL of the words to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song.

With little Amber, I’ve been having fun introducing her to classics like Sesame Street, Curious George and Clifford the Big Red Dog (does anyone else remember learning how to read with Clifford books???).

netflixkids It’s really nice spending the quality bonding time cuddling with the girls and watching shows from my childhood with them as it fondly reminds me of the days when I used to watch shows with my dad from his childhood. I can still remember laughing at my dad while he sang the Andy Griffin Show theme song, and how his face used to light up when he remembered a funny line from the episode that we were watching together – it really helped me to feel connected to him, and it helped me to understand the era in which he grew up in. I hope that watching throwback shows with me will also help my daughters to feel connected to me in the same way that watching shows from my dad’s youth did with me.

Now it’s your turn…

Janice I have too many from my childhood… of course the silly Brady Bunch… haha… who didn’t want their parents? Especially since I didn’t have an ideal home… I can’t think of others off the top of my head but I did love The Facts Of Life too…. I watched those girls grow up…

Have a really great day… I hope it doesn’t stay rainy there long:)

I love Netflix for having all those old shows! I introduced my niece to Full House recently, which was my favorite growing up, and she loved cute little Michelle as much as I did. I don’t think Full House is on Netflix…but is should be!

How fun! We love Netflix in our home too. My kids love that they can choose what they want to watch anytime.
