New Shows and Movies to Watch on Netflix While Working Out

I could binge watch shows on new shows and movies on Netflix while riding my indoor trainer for hours. In fact, I occasionally do. It’s like my not-so-secret triathlon training weapon. The faster the pace of the movie, the faster I pedal and work. For some reason the shows and movies take my mind off of the suffering.

New Shows and Movies to Watch on Netflix While Working Out

What you might not have realised is that I’m a Netflix #streamteam member.  This means I get advanced screenings of new Netflix original shows (ie: The Adventures of Puss in Boots, King Julien).  Every month I’ll be sharing with you the latest shows and movies being released and share reviews of movies and shows that I watched while training (and while recovering from training).

This past month I was really able to get into my training with the help of a combination of new and old.  I watched the highly political movie of the year: The Interview.  I also watched Olympus Has Fallen, and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.  The shows I watched were Gilmore Girls, Friends, Wentworth and Call The Midwife.

Favourite Netflix TV Shows and Movies

The Interview

Starring Seth Rogin and his is a slapstick satirical movie about a late night talk show host and his production assistant who gets the opportunity to interview the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.  They are then tasked by the CIA with trying to assassinate him.  This was not nearly as offensive as I was expecting a movie that was causing so many political issues to be.  It had some pretty funny moments in typical Seth Rogin fashion.

Olympus Has Fallen

OlympusStarring Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart and Gerard Butler this is an action packed movie where a North Korean terrorist attacks the White House.  The President is captured and the incredibly sexy Gerard Butler must prevent the terrorists from detonating the US’s nuclear weapons, save the President and his son.  I found it pretty hard to believe that one guy could accomplish all of that on his own without the help of the rest of the US army, though like I said, Gerard Butler was very nice on the eyes 🙂

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

Jack_Ryan_Shadow_Recruit_posterMy husband is very found of the Tom Clancy books about the character Jack Ryan so I thought I’d give this one a try.  It was great for pedalling to, but occasionally I found it hard to follow the dialogue because of the sound my indoor trainer makes.  Starring Chris Pine, Kevin Costner, and Keira Knightley, this movie is about a young covert CIA analyst that uncovers a Russian plot to crash the U.S. economy with a terrorist attack.  I really have no idea what has drawn me to movies about terrorism this month.

TV Shows

I discovered some great new-to-me shows on Netflix this month and re-kindled my romance with some old shows: Friends and Gilmore Girls.  I really enjoy watching the old shows because to me they just don’t make TV like that anymore.  I realise that I sound like I’m getting so old when I say things like that, but the truth is they just don’t!

Wentworth If you love Orange is the New Black as much as I do, then you’ll also love Wentworth.  It’s an edgier, Australian drama series based on a women’s prison.  Wentworth is set in modern-day Australia and focuses on Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) when she first enters prison after being charged with the attempted murder of her husband. Bea is separated from her daughter and sent to Wentworth on remand, where she lives in “an uncertain limbo” until she is sentenced. Bea is then forced to learn how the prison works.  This is more drama than the comedy of OITNB, but is even more enjoyable – I LOVE this show!

Call the Midwife

Confession: I’m absolutely fascinated by childbirth.  I find it completely amazing how a person can grow inside a woman’s body.  I find it even more fascinating that women were giving birth naturally WAY before the technology of ultrasounds, fetal heart rate monitors etc.  I absolutely was amazed by the skills of all the midwives who cared for me during my pregnancies with Brooke and Amber.  Call the Midwife is a period drama that originally aired on the BBC.  This is an entertaining series about a group of nurse midwives working in the East End of London in the 1950s and 1960s.  I thoroughly enjoy swining my kettlebell around while watching this show after I put the kids to bed.

I’m almost done with Gilmore Girls (for about the 10th time!) and I’m also watching old episodes of Roseanne. If that doesn’t age me, I don’t know what will! I can’t wait for the next season of House of Cards! I usually save movies for when I need to do a long run on the treadmill. Good recommendations!

Netflix and another streaming video site is how I get through the torture of beginning to run again! So glad you mentioned Call the Midwife ~ love period shows so will have to check out. You mentioned the sound of your machine getting in the way ~ have you tried closed captioning? I ‘read’ all my shows in combination with the sound bc I otherwise miss the dialogue. Just in case a reader doesn’t know, you can access it by clicking the little rectangle bubble with dots/dashes at the top of your viewing screen.
