MotivateMe Monday: Back to the Grind

If you’re new here, #MotivateME Monday is a weekly link-up co-hosted by myself and Running Rachel for accountability and encouragement. It’s a place for us to share goals, plans, successes and have each other to pick us up to keep moving forward.

Happy Monday, we survived our first full week back to the grind! I was actually pretty happy to be back to a routine, even if it’s crazy busy.  I really like how the structure of work, and school etc. keeps me busy so that I’m not constantly looking for my next cookie 😀

I'll share my cookies!!! But you're not getting them all, you can forget about that right now.

This past week was cold (very cold, as in windchills of -30C).  Was it cold where you live too?  I had to bundle up in so many clothes that according to my new heart rate monitor my heart rate was up past 90 bpm just trying to get all of my layers on – that counts as a workout too, right?

Despite the freezing cold temperatures my workout week turned out to be pretty good.  I mostly followed last week’s meal plan, and fitness plan (having a plan sure helps me to stay on track).

Last week’s workouts:

Monday – Lunch time weights at the gym + 30 min ride on my indoor trainer after the kids went to bed.
Tuesday – 10k 7k morning run with the o’dark thirty club
Wednesday – 6am spinning class + 30 min of kettlebells after the kids go to bed  REST
Thursday – 10k 7k morning run with the o’dark thirty club
Friday – 30 min of lap swimming Bodypump and CX Works class at GoodLife Fitness
Saturday – 20k 16k run
Sunday – 1 hour ride on my indoor trainer + 15 min of kettlebells

This week’s workout plan:

Monday – Lunch time weights at the gym + 45 min ride on my indoor trainer after the kids go to bed.
Tuesday – 10k morning run with the o’dark thirty club
Wednesday – 6am spinning class + 30 min of kettlebells after the kids go to bed
Thursday – 10k morning run with the o’dark thirty club
Friday –  CX Works class at GoodLife Fitness
Saturday – 20k run
Sunday – 1 hour ride on my indoor trainer + 15 min of kettlebells

This weeks meal plan:

Monday – The leftovers from the homemade lasagna I made yesterday (it was so good!)
Tuesday – Creamy Italian Chicken
Wednesday – Soup & sandwiches
Thursday – Chicken strips and baked sweet potato fries
Friday – Pizza night

And breakfast will be the muffin tin omelettes that I made.

My training is going fairly well so far, but I need to figure out when to get myself into a pool.  There’s one at the GoodLife Fitness near my office, so perhaps I can try for one lunch/week.

One final thought for the week: If a lunch run is called a RUNch, then what’s a lunch swim called? SWUNch?  Hmmmm…..

You are amazing with your training, consistency and cold weather running!! I am SO NOT ready to run in the cold. 😉 I guess I better toughen up… my time is coming.

AND… yes… I do love the cookies too.

I think I might try out a CXWorks class this week. I need some more core strength, so it would be the perfect 30 minute blast for me!

I love to make egg muffins too and sometimes just crack the egg into a ‘basket’ of a thin slice of ham. Lovely. Have a great week, Janice!

I totally agree with enjoying getting back into a routine in spite of the busyness of it. Knowing where you’re going has it’s own calming effect.

Great week! Especially considering it was the first week back after the holidays.

I really like that you post your workout and meal plans for the week, as it must hold you more accountable. I have training schedule in an excel spreadsheet, but finding I keep swapping one cross-training workout for a walk.

Here’s my plan for the week (maybe it will keep me a bit more accountable too!):
Monday: 30 min Shred & 3K walk (already swapped this for a 5K walk)
Tuesday: 6K incl. hills (this will depend on how snowy the hill is)
    Wednesday: 8K easy
    Thursday: 30 min Shred & 3K walk
Friday: 6.5K incl. 3K race pace pick ups
    Saturday: rest
    Sunday: 22.5K long run

    The mini-omelette muffins look great!

    Have a good week 🙂

Great idea for a link up! And thanks for linking up with me for meal planning, too. I was not a fan at all of the bitter cold this week. Hope we have many warmer winter weeks ahead!

It wasn’t that cold here, but we had enough cold + enough precipitation to totally mess with everyone around here. So far, the kids have had 3 delays out of 6 days in school!

I need to make those muffin omelets. I need a fast breakfast and I never get around to making them.

It’s been cold here but thankfully not as cold as you. We had several days last week that didn’t get out of the single digits. Today was in the 20s!!!
That creamy Italian chicken looks awesome!
And, my boys love when I make muffin eggs for them to just heat up and eat during the week.

Those egg omelettes look amazing. I keep meaning to make some of those up. Good for you for braving the cold, I’ve been taking all my runs to the treadmill lately.

My goal is to make more of those egg muffin tin thingies because it is quick, easy and my family loves it. Don’t tell anyone but I also make stuffed biscuits.

Hey Janice… I don’t feel comfortable with running outside right now as it is so icy in spots but let me tell you this… I walk so fast that half way through my walk I am undoing layer after layer and trying to cool down… so YES… getting dressed in all your layers can be counted as a workout… I say taking off counts too… haha…

Good job keeping up even with the nasty cold… it has been cold here too but not that low.. yet 🙁

Those muffin tin omelets look GOOOOD! My goal this week is to increase my running mileage…I’ve been so focused on weight training lately that my miles have all but disappeared!

It looks like you had a successful week of training! That picture of you all bundled up makes me chilly, haha! I couldn’t even imagine going out for a workout in this cold. My daughter begs me daily to play in the snow, it is just so cold, I normally make it about 30 minutes before I am begging her to come back in! I am a wuss in the cold!
Those baked egg muffins look yummy!

You are a trooper for running in the cold, chica!
I’m going to have to be a copycat and make some tin muffins myself!
