Getting the Sleep I Need with Jawbone + Other Things I’m Loving

hearts

It’s been quite some time since the last “Things I’m Loving” post I wrote but I took two days vacation to go on my annual girls shopping trip in Niagara Falls, NY , had a blast and found so many great things that I just couldn't resist sharing these with you.

1. Jawbone UP24

The first thing I'm loving that I want to share with you is my Jawbone UP24. I actually got my UP in February and have used it off and on since then. I loved that I was able to track all of my steps while on our shopping adventure.Jawbone UP24

Jawbone Up24

Almost 5 miles of walking while shopping!

Unfortunately Jawbone has stopped making this model, but I'm sure their JawboneUP3 is just as (if not more amazing as it also tracks heart rate). Like any activity tracker, it tracks activity but what really sets it apart for me are the functions surrounding sleep.

Getting enough sleep is crucial. I used my UP for several nights in a row a month agot to track my sleep activity and was able to find out on average how much sleep my body needs in order to be at it's best. Then I counted backwards from the time I wanted to get up every day to workout/run. I set an alert on the band to vibrate 20 minutes before I needed to go to bed. Now every night at 10:05 the band vibrates to remind me to start getting ready for bed, then at 10:25 it vibrates to remind to go to bed. At 5:40 am it vibrates to wake me up for my run. I also love that it vibrates every 45 min to remind me to get up and move while I'm at work (or if I've been idle for 45 min on the weekends). It's made waking up for my morning runs easier, especially now that our morning runs are done in the pitch dark.

2. PayPal

While shopping I discovered another thing that I love… PayPal! I noticed quite a few stores with the PayPal symbol at the cash, so I asked them what it was for.

Well it turns out that you can pay directly from your PayPal account for goods at some stores. Using your PayPal app you can search for stores near you that take PayPal, so I searched and found out that Aeropostale and Famous Footwear in the mall I was in both took PayPal. At Famous Footwear I gave it a try – I was able to login to my PayPal account at the cash using their credit/debit terminal and paid directly out of my PayPal account for two cute pairs of boots and two pairs of boot socks! Sweet!

I often get paid for my web design/wordpress support work through PayPal so it was like an early Christmas for me to be able to pay directly from PayPal instead of waiting for the money to transfer to my bank account to be able to spend it 🙂

3. Quitbit

While relaxing at the hotel and surfing around the 'net I saw an ad for the Quitbit on someone's site so I clicked through and thought it was pretty cool. While I don't smoke (I quite 21 years ago!) I think this would be a handy tool for anyone trying. The Quitbit is the world's first smart lighter, and will hopefully be the last lighter you'll ever need.

4. An open letter to today's 14 year old girls

Another thing I came across while relaxing was this post written by a young 19-year old college student. It's an open letter to all 14 year old girls that includes some great gems such as this one:

I hope you embrace your passions and keep them close to your heart, because they’ll be the perfect outlet for stress and they might make a good career one day. – Jessica Hammer

5. Being home

While I greatly enjoyed my shopping trip, there's nothing I love more than being home with my girls.

Those are the five things I've come across this week that seemed pretty neat and “share-worthy”.

What have you come across lately that you thought was pretty cool?

I use PayPal for so many online purchases. It’s the best! I had no idea actual stores were starting to use it!

I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw how many physical stores around me took PayPal. Here in Canada only the mom & pop stores can take PayPal, there are definitely more chains in the US venturing into PayPal.

Being home is the best. I am just now starting to be at that point in the season where I really appreciate it.

Aww thanks 🙂 We need to buy a new one because there are now several sections that no longer light up that I try to cover with other sets of lights. Hubby says that’s part of the “charm”.

No problem! It was very well written – I’ll definitely also share it with my daughters once they’re old enough.

I love my Fitbit Charge for that same reason, the sleep and the RHR tracking. I fall behind on sleep and I can tell. The fatigue builds through the week. I also recently discovered PayPal when I sold a bunch of my tri and cycling kits from other brands after I was selected for Wattie Ink team. How convenient!

I just got a fitbit and have been loving using it to track my steps and stuff too! I wish it was more comfortable to wear at night so I could track my sleep but I just can’t sleep with it on.
