Is it taper week if you didn’t train? #MotivateMe Monday

Happy Monday everyone!

Have you missed me?  I sure missed you!  I have been completely down for the count for well over a week with a NASTY case of sinusitis (according to Dr. Google).  I’m self-diagnosing based on symptoms.  It started with a fever, body aches, chills and a sore throat, then by day three I had a headache, sore sinuses, runny nose, and sneezing along with the body aches.  Every night I feel like I got hit by a truck, then when I wake up in the mornings I feel like a boxer has been using my face as a punching bag.  Gah – I hate being sick!

I only managed to take 1 day off of work to get caught up on my Netflix.  I was given media screener access to Season 4 of Orange is the New Black and let me say it is AWESOME!!! Although I only felt mildly better the next day, I dragged my butt into work because I felt guilty for all the relaxing I had done the day before.  Unfortunately I got sicker when I went back to work, I guess I should have stayed home another day to watch more Netflix.

I know I would be better if I actually took time off from work/parenting/coaching but I just couldn’t – there’s been so much to do! Last week I found myself at softball 4 out of 5 nights, then on the weekend I drove all over Ontario to go to a family reunion on Saturday, then a really nice Bridal shower for my sister-in-law on Sunday at the Old Mill in Toronto.

This week Saturday I’m running the MEC 10k with my best running friend Juliette and Lucie from Run Mommy Run.  I’m excited that this is “taper” week for the run, though truthfully with this cold and our Florida trip a month ago I haven’t really trained.  Is it still taper week if you haven’t trained?

I have to admit that I’ve LOVED the excitement of knowing I had a race coming up.  There’s something so special about race day – this is seriously how I feel on race day:

This week I don’t have a plan except to rest, get better, then run the MEC 10k.  It would be nice to break an hour, but with the way my training has been going that would be very optimistic.  I’m sure a “bad” race will be good for me though, as those always work well to motivate me to train much harder for the next one 🙂

Have a great week everyone!

Good luck on the race coming up! I was sick this week too with the same, so between that and allergies, it is a total MISS on the running! Get well soon!
