#MotivateMe Monday: Halloween Recap & Birthday Edition

Happy Belated Halloween everyone!

I hope your night was safe and fun! Halloween is one of my favourite events of the year, but I totally lack the creative gene so I find the whole figuring out a costume part of Halloween stressful, yet I love seeing how creative other people are. I can totally appreciate how much thought and work go into their costumes. That said, my kids somehow got the creative gene that I lack. For our pumpkin this year they decided to make it as “fancy” as they could:

(The whole time we were carving/decorating we listened to the song “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea).
I also love walking around our neighbourhood with the kids meeting and talking to neighbours that I don’t normally get a chance to talk to. I’m one of those parents who come right up to the door with the kids. Besides, who doesn’t love chocolate (in moderation of course…). This year we spent Halloween with my friend Christine. She has the creative gene that I lack. Every year Christine hosts an awesome Halloween party with a different theme. Two years ago she hosted a zombie wedding:

And last year the theme was classic Halloween. This year the theme was Circus Freak Show. Christine and her fiancée Steve rented a tent and did their backyard up with lights like a circus tent. It was awesome! Christine made herself an amazing contortionist costume:

My hubby also lacks the creative costume gene and like me isn’t much of a fan of dressing up, so we went with a much “tamer” costume idea…. He was an animal tamer and I was his tiger:

We had a lot of fun!
Instead of trick or treating in our neighbourhood, on Saturday night I took the kids to Christine’s to trick or treat. The girls had decided with Juliette’s daughter’s to do a group costume. They were the characters from Super Mario Brothers. My girls were Luigi, Bowser and Toad, while Juliette’s daughters were Mario and Yoshi. They got a ton of candy and also had a lot of fun!

This weekend was doubly busy because besides our usual hockey, and the added stress of Halloween, it was also my youngest daughter Amber’s 5th birthday. 5 years ago I was a big ol’ round pumpkin for Halloween, and two days later Amber was born. I remember rushing to the hospital 30 minutes away in labour with my midwives in hot pursuit after us. 67 minutes after my labour started Amber was born! I remember waddling into the hospital and telling my husband and my midwives that I was ready to push. This wasn’t my first rodeo so they thankfully believed me and rushed me to a bed.

5 years sure flies by!!!

Last week I shared with you my November goals, so with those in mind here is this week’s workout plan:

The pumpkin makes me think more of the Mexican Day of the Dead celebration. Those themed Halloween parties look so fun!
