#MotivateMe Monday: Easing “Back” Into It So I Can CRUSH 2016!

Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to 2016! I hope you’ve all set some goals for how you’re going to ROCK and CRUSH 2016, because trust me, together we are going to BRING IT this year and show the world that we’re boss!!!

As you may have seen from my lack of fitness selfies on instagram, my cranky SI Joint (lower back where spine meets the hips) has decided to be a big ol’ cranky, crank, crank. Boo 😥 So I don’t really have much fitness to report from last week.  This cranky back of mine likes to do this to me to keep me honest – whenever I let my core strengthening slack BOOM! my back cranks out on me. I was doing some sort of burpee like thing in my workout last Tuesday with my running buddy Juliette, and I felt it twinge. Of course the head case that I am, I finished the workout, then spent the next week on the couch with a heating pad and my friend Robaxacet…. New Year’s Eve booze and Robaxacet was an interesting combo….

Speaking of New Year’s Eve, did you have a good one? Did you go to any parties? Every year Juliette and I run the Resolutions Run at Running Room (I say every year even though so far I’ve only done it once) on New Year’s Eve. This year I was registered and excited to run when my cranky back decided it had other plans for me, so I gave my bib to Becky… Lo and behold she was first female overall!!! Way to go Becky!!!!

After the run, Juliette hosts a New Year’s Eve party at her place where we dress up in costumes from a different decade.  You may remember me dressing up like I was in the 50’s 2 years ago…

So this year we decided to be a little bit more classy and went with a Great Gatsby/Roaring 20’s theme.  We even got the kids involved…

After a great New Year’s Eve party the rest of our weekend was pretty quiet besides the chauffeuring of kids to their various hockey games and practices.  They won every game, woot woot!  

I captured this picture of hubby coaching, with Brooke beside him at their game on Saturday.  He takes his coaching job VERY seriously 🙂

This week I’m easing back slowly into fitness and am going to focus on CORE STRENGTH!  I keep forgetting how important my CORE is to my performance (and back health).  I started today at lunch at GoodLife Fitness with a 20 minute NO CRUNCH core workout (I did the workout twice).

Boom, take that cranky back!

Here’s this week’s fitness plan:

Monday: 20 min Core workout
Tuesday: 3 mile run + core workout
Wednesday: BodyPump at GoodLife Fitness? Not sure the back can take it
Thursday: 3 mile run + core workout
Friday: Core workout
Saturday: 30 min indoor trainer cycling + core workout
Sunday: Core workout

 If I spend the time now strengthening my core (and posterior chain) I can CRUSH the rest of 2016, bring it on!!!

    I have a cranky knee that if I slack hollers at me. So I have to focus a lot of attention to my trunk stability send strength. Keeps me honest too! 😉 digging the Gatsby look. Absolute class darling!! I’m thinking 2016 will be rocking!

    I love the themed party. I think you all looked great in your roaring 20’s out fits! We rang in the New Year with dinner at the Casino in Niagara Falls! This year, my goals are to compete in the Iron Girl in August, and run a 1/2 marathon (I’m working on increasing my millage right now). I’m sorry to hear about your cranky back! I hope you feel better soon!

    Janice my physio therapist figured out that my injury was from my back.. if I could have laid up for a week I probably would have been healed quicker… today I am finally feeling more myself (I am going to be working on my core.. a majoy necessity) ?

    I have a cranky shoulder after a bad bike accident this Summer that left me with a broken arm and lots of tissue damage….sigh….no planks or TRX for me for a long time! However,I have joined the 2,016 miles in 2016 Challenge & have felt super motivated about logging more running/walking miles than ever. Happy New Year & thanks for your great link-up!! 🙂

    Great post! It’s gotten cold here and so my joints are screaming at me. My goals for this week are to stay moving throughout the day and keep things simple and focused on my elliptical and core strength training. I cannot expect too much when I feel this bad, but I cannot allow myself to wallow in the misery either. Hope you feel better!

    Looking gorgeous on NYE! Love all the costumes. My plan this week is just to get back to a normal routine with all my workouts and eating well after all that travel we did.

    Oh so sorry to hear about your back pain! I hope you feel better soon. I definitely need to do more work on my core…I did some V-ups yesterday and almost died!

    For years after my youngest daughter was born, I had hamstring tendonitis that caused pain from my back down my whole leg. After trying yoga, Pilates, a million core workouts, physio, massage, and acupuncture, I finally tried essentrics.com and have been pain-free ever since! I do it after every workout and its magic. You can purchase DVDs or stream videos for $15/month.
