Motivation Monday: Start with the Decision to Try

Hey guys!  I hope you all had a great week!

Have you noticed that the days are getting longer?  My 4 yo thanked me the other day for picking her up earlier from daycare than normal – only I was picking her up at the normal time.  The sun has definitely been setting later lately.  You know what that means? It means there are now more daylight hours to TRAIN!  My half marathon that I’ve been training my butt off for is 1 week away!  After the half marathon, I can start training for my Spring racing season by getting up earlier in the morning to take advantage of the longer days.  (If I can wake up that early….)

My last week of hard training went very well and I’m really looking forward to the Chilly Half Marathon on Sunday – I’m confident I can finish the race,  but am questioning if I’ll be able to set that sub-2 hr PR that I’ve been chasing for the past 4 months.

Training this week was awesome!  I really surprised myself with my runs on Monday and Thursday.  Monday was the Family Day holiday here, so I took advantage of it and did a long 21.1k (half marathon) – my pace was pretty good – but not as fast as I want to go next week. I was only supposed to run 19k but my legs felt very strong and I wanted to see if I really could do a half so I just kept going.   Tuesday I rested, Wednesday was BodyPump class, Thursday I ran a very fast 8k (set a new 8k PR!), and then ran a very slow 5k on Friday (my legs were dead!).  Saturday I rested and on Sunday I ran 15k:

My mantra as I head into race week comes from an image I saw on Pinterest:

With that in mind, here is my training/taper plan:

Monday: Spinning class
Tuesday: 8k easy
Wednesday: BodyPumpclass
Thursday: 8k easy
Friday: REST
Saturday: REST
Sunday: RACE DAY!!!

I am going to try as hard as I can on Sunday 🙂

OH! Almost forgot! Congratulations are in order for some very special friends from the FitFluential Family – several lucky ladies got to travel to Disney to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon!  I’ve been yammering about that race for a LONG time – it’s definitely a bucket list race for me. Unfortunately I wasn’t picked to go, but several ladies did go and they were awesome!

BIG Congrats to:

These awesome and inspiring ladies all started with the decision to try.

Oh how I hope I surprise myself on Sunday!!

I can’t wait to have more daylight for running! Lately most of my speed workouts have been in the dark with a headlamp on. Hope you enjoy your training as the days get longer!

That is such a cute statement by your daughter. It does seem though that when it stays light longer we have more hours in the day 🙂 I’m sure you’ll have a great race.
