Motivation Monday: Recovery Week in Review

Happy Monday Morning guys!!

I’m was up early today because I had this fantastic plan to go for a run before my family woke up… So I got up, I ate breakfast (a piece of Ezekiel toast, 2 hard-boiled eggs and a black coffee), and… It was still dark out. While I feel safe living in my neighbourhood, I don’t feel comfortable “jogging” while it’s still dark out. (How many news stories have you heard of lady joggers who get attacked while it’s dark out? Lots, right?). So as much as I wanted to run, I ended up staying inside and enjoying a quiet breakfast instead. (Stupid daylight savings time).

Yeah yeah – no excuses. I know I could have gone to the gym and ran on the dreadmill, but truth be told, I piss my pants something awful while running on that hunk of metal and it’s REALLY embarrassing! I don’t have nearly as much control over my pelvic floor while running on a dreadmill as I do outside – I’m gonna blame my lack of control that on the three beautiful daughters I delivered vaginally.

Training wise things are going well – this was a recovery week from last week’s half marathon, so I took put my feet up and relaxed. Kinda like this:

I didn’t see a point in rushing a return to running then getting injured. Experience has taught me that I can’t completely take a few weeks off and then expect to run as if I didn’t take a break, nor can I run as hard as I was during my training right after a race – so I tried my best to reach the happy medium:

Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Easy 5k
Wednesday: BodyPump Class
Thursday: Easy 5k
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: Easy 14.5k

Next week is my last “training” week before I taper for the 30k race that I’m running on March 25th. I’m also off this week with the kids for Spring Break (only we call it March Break up here in the great white north), so like I said in my post on Saturday, I’m going to do some Spring cleaning/organizing and purging. Here’s my training plan:

Monday: Easy 8k – Sierra will ride her bike beside me, Amber & Brooke at daycare
Tuesday: Early morning BodyPump Class
Wednesday: Easy 8k
Thursday: Early morning BodyPump Class
Friday: Easy 8k
Saturday: 20k
Sunday: Rest

Food wise I’m going clean – eating that is. I’ll write more about that tomorrow – but in the mean time I need some help looking for resources. Do you read any blogs by people who eat clean? I want to create a little reading list that will help motivate me and keep me on target.

      LOL – yes – the benefit of being Canadian – recording distances in km so that it looks like I run a lot more than I do 🙂

    I didn’t realize that the treadmill would affect your pelvic floor – interesting! I really do try to follow clean eating, although I don’t blog about it much. Great job on you’re recovery week!

      Yeah… I can’t control my speed/bladder as well on a dreadmill as I can outside. I “leak” running outside too, but it’s not near as bad or as embarrassing as it is on a dreadmill. I’ll never let it stop me from running though!

    I won’t jog when it’s dark out either. And for some reason the am seems more daunting than at night. I am still recovering from my half 8 days ago. My body just won’t bounce back!

    I’m a chicken and won’t run in the dark, alone anyway. If I was running with someone else, no problem. Although I would probably still get freaked out =)

      Perhaps that’s what I need to do – find someone else who wants to run at dawn with me, good idea!

    The clean eating sites I read are simple organic, part of the simple media blogs, also the 100 days of real food and keeper of the home. They always have links too. Good luck! ( not that i eat this way though…a girl can dream )

    I’m ramping up to do 30 days of smoothies for breakfast. I’ve never felt better than when I used to have green smoothies for breakfast. Trying to find someone to sponsor a new blender though 🙂 Running in the dark is one of my problems too. I know my neighborhood is safe, but its new to me, so I’m just not sure. I’m hoping baby girl’s sleep and daylight even out in my favor soon. Have a good week ramping back up for your next race.
