Mamavation Monday

How was your week last week? Did your drink your water? Get your beauty sleep? And eat your 7-8 servings of fruits and veggies? (Remember: fruit and veggies are chock full of fiber!).

After my vacation the previous week, I was back to my regular routine this week.Only this week was more hectic thanks to my oldest daughter’s return to school, and the start of swimming, skating and gymnastics lessons. Yep – we’re really back into the full swing of things! That’s ok though – Im one of those people who THRIVE on routine… and planning… etc..

I was fairly active this week, ate well, but had a hard time sleeping – I’m really starting to get anxious about the birth of this baby, and finishing work. There’s so much work to do until I start my maternity leave Oct. 22nd. I also have some great ideas for my blogs that I can’t wait to have the time to carry out – so I’ve been keeping myself awake with my dreams and anxiety. Another thing causing me anxiety is the pressure that baby is putting on my lungs – I feel like I’m not getting enough air when I lie down… then I get a mini panic attack… then I gasp for air… and can’t get enough air… and then I end up flinging the covers off and sitting up until I calm myself down… I cant wait until baby drops and I can breathe again 🙂

Another reason I could be having trouble sleeping is because it’s possible that my iron levels are back to normal, so the extra iron I’m taking is interfering with my circadian cycles. I’ll have to remember to ask my midwife to re-test me when I’m back there in a week from now.

Oh yeah! Speaking of my midwife… I had my 32 week appointment on Thursday. Everything is going awesome! I have all of you guys to thank for that, because I’m sure that I wouldn’ve stayed this active without trying to be a role-model for you. Thank you for all of your kind words & encouragement! My blood pressure is now up to a normal level, my weight gain has been slow and steady – I’m definitely not going to hit the 40lb gained mark like I did with my 2 previous pregnancies, baby’s growth is awesome and he/she is measuring a week ahead 🙂 He/she has also rotated into a head down position – yay!

All in all, here’s a summary of what I accomplished last week:
Monday: Did my Walk and Tone mp3 Workout (3.5 km)
Tuesday: Couldn’t workout at lunch because I went to a United Way Fundraising BBQ at work.
Wednesday: Did my Walk and Tone mp3 Workout (3.5 km)
Thursday: No workout because I had to use my lunch for my midwife appointment.
Friday: Did my Walk and Tone mp3 Workout (3.5 km)
Saturday: Rest/clean my house.
Sunday: Rest/play with the kids 🙂

I’ve now walked/ran 463 km this pregnancy – another 37 km to go until I reach my goal of 500 km by birth!

    Oh I totally hear you on the keeping yourself away planning and dreaming. I think the only difference is that you’ll actually make it happen! I’m not quite there yet! I hope baby drops soon so you have some relief on your lungs (my little guy never dropped so I had to wait for his birth to get relief!). Only one month of work to go! Yahoo 🙂

    I am blown away by your activity during pregnancy. During mine I think I used it as an excuse to do nothing but eat and now 3 years later I am paying for it,lol. Best of luck to you as you wind down for maternity leave and the birth of the baby!

      Thanks Laila! I used my previous two pregnancies as an excuse too – mamavation has REALLY helped me to stay active & healthy 🙂

    Wow!! you’re coming into the home stretch!! Glad to hear your doing so well! Glad your iron is better too!!! I love that you do a mile walking at the same speed I do it “running.” Hmmmm.

      Are you sure we’re comparing apples to apples? A mile is 600 meters longer than a kilometre. Is it possible you run 3.5mi (5.6k) in the time it takes me to walk 3.5km?

    When I was preggo with little man, I used to wake up at night unable to breathe. My poor husband didn’t sleep much either because when it happened, I’d get on my hands and knees in bed and press on my belly. If I couldn’t get the bugger to move, then hubs had to wake up and make him move hehe

    Wow, you are so close to hitting that 500 goal! Inspiring! Sorry to hear about the sleeping problems. I had a similar problem and it helped to pile lots of pillows around me so I slept in a more propped up position. My hubby called it my pillow throne. Have a great week!

      I tried that last night (& took some melatonin) and slept very very well 🙂 Pillow mountain here I come!

    You are adorable and hardcore. You will be at 500km before you know it. Try to rest though, even if you need to do breathing exercises in your dimly lit bedroom before sleepy time.

      Great idea Kia! I’m going to try it tonight – maybe even read an old-fashioned book! I need to finish Breaking Dawn so I can return it to my co-worker anyways. Thanks for the suggestion – sometimes I forget the obvious 🙂

    I am in total awe of you and your active pregnancy. I wish I could have done that with Buttercup, and hope that I can be half as active as you when I get pregnant again. A true inspiration, lady. Rock it and smile while you keep at it.

    You are an inspiration!!! I’m sorry you are having trouble sleeping – I hate when I can’t get my mind to quite down enough to go to sleep. I hope that everything continues to go beautifully! ALSO – I want to download your Walk and Tone mp3 – am I correct to assume that it will play on an iPhone?!?!!?! Excited!

      Thanks! Kia had a good suggestion about unwinding in a dimly lit room – i’m going to try it tonight. (Unfortunately that means not staying up for Mamavation TV tonight).

      The mp3 certainly will play on an iPhone – I listen to it while also running the Nike + GPS app to track my workouts. I hope you enjoy it!

    I agree about how much you have been doing, you are an inspiration for us pregnant women I love having that little voice in my head saying Amanda are you working out drinkiong your water because others are looking up to you. Thank you for being a voice in my head.

    WOW! You have a lot on your mind. You’re doing a great job of keeping up with your work outs. When I was preggers I didn’t want to do anything but sleep and get the baby out! lol – Good luck this week.

      Thanks Pamela! Walking has become such a big part of my lunch work routine that I’m really going to miss it when I start maternity leave.
