Motivation Monday: No More Beating Myself Up

Last week, as I wrote in my post about my bad eating habits, I struggled. I totally struggled to get back into a routine of healthy, mindful eating and exercising. Monday was a holiday (Canada Day) so I swam laps in the pool, Tuesday I ran 5k, Wednesday I went to BodyPump, and Thursday I went to Spinning class. Unfortunately my BodyPump class left me so sore that I skipped my Friday run and opted to go out for lunch with my co-workers instead, and I was still too sore to move on Saturday. By Sunday all the residual soreness had disappeared, so I swam laps for 20 min, flew kites with the kids, cleaned my van and went on a nature walk with the family.

Even though I exercised more last week than I have in the past few weeks, I’ve felt like I haven’t been putting a huge effort into it, and in my head I’ve been really beating myself up for missed workouts and not eating “perfectly”.

So last night, as I reflected on my week as I often do on Sunday nights, I reviewed the pictures that I took over the weekend from the things that we did:

Brooke’s birthday:

Late night drinks with my awesome friend Lena who was visiting Canada from Chicago:

Kite flying with the kids:

A trip to the park:

Several hours of swimming:

Nature walk:

And I’ve come to realise that I’m STILL busy living my priorities, (and it’s leaving me exhausted), but I need to stop beating myself up and realise that I likely exercise far harder than I give myself credit for. Heck – I should be PROUD of what I did do, and instead of making myself feel bad for what I haven’t done, I’m going to live this week celebrating what I have accomplished!

So this is my fitness and triathlon training plan for this week, though I’m not going to apologise to you if I need to skip out on any of these:

Monday: Lunch time spinning class (DONE!)
Tuesday: Run 5k at lunch (Tuesday is my birthday, so my co-workers may twist my rubber arm and take me out for lunch instead – knowing this, a wise move would be to plan ahead and do my run in the morning before work instead….). Swim after the kids go to bed.
Wednesday: BodyPump! (Man I LOVE that class!)
Thursday: Spinning (Did I mention the new instructor for my Thursday Spinning class is freaking HAWT?!)
Friday: Run 5k at lunch, swim after the kids go to bed
Saturday: Bike? Run 10k
Sunday: Swim

This week there will be no more guilt, and no more beating myself up – Will you join me?

Have a great week everyone!

I’m in! As health-oriented moms we put so much pressure on ourselves to live healthy, be fit, rear the kids, go to work and we burn ourselves out with our good intentions. We do so much more than we realize.

Great job on the workouts 🙂 I love body pump too, and am incredibly sore from it today.
