Motivation Monday: July 12, 2010

This is my Mamavation post for Monday, July 12, 2010.

Hey everyone!

Wow! Last week sure was HOT! I hope you were all able to stay cool while working out. The weather really made me adapt my plans ” but I didn ‘t let it deter me! My goal through this pregnancy is to be moderately active 5 days a week for a min of 30 min each of those 5 days.

In order to reach my goal I ‘ve created a fitness plan. Two times a week I run 5K around a park with some co-workers, and on Saturday mornings I sneak out for 5K, giving me some “mommy time . I ‘ve also signed up for a twice a week Boot Camp Fitness class that ‘s held in a Board Room at work (I ‘m hoping to continue this as far into my pregnancy as I can). A bunch of my co-workers have gotten together to bring in Rob from He comes in twice a week at lunch to whip us all into shape through a class that combines strength moves with cardio (the most efficient way to burn fat, lose weight and build strength). We found that there isn ‘t enough time at lunch to travel to the nearest gym, so we bring Rob, a personal trainer in to us. I love Rob ” he ‘s always challenging my fitness knowledge and the limits to which I can push my body, whether preggo or not. BTW ” he ‘s got a great informative blog you should totally check out! (For example – today he has a great post about how to kick that chocolate craving).

Back to the point of this post… This week I faced the curve ball of high heat and humidity ” Yep! Even up here in the Great White North the temperatures soared (average temperature for the week was 93F with a humidex of 109F). That is seriously hot by Canadian standards. I adapted my plan by getting up early on Tuesday and doing my run before work before anyone in my family was up, and on Friday I got a guest pass at the nearest gym so I could borrow their treadmill at lunch. Thankfully by Saturday the temperature was a more reasonable 80F, so I did my run a little earlier than normal to beat the heat. Afterwards I threw my youngest daughter a pool party, and on Sunday we spent the day at the beach:

Next week will be yet another busy week in our household, Monday my oldest has soccer, then there’s the #mamavation Twitter Launch Party (8-10pm EST), Big Brother has started (I’m a HUGE fan!) and this weekend we’ve been invited up to a pal’s cottage.

Monday: Work out with my awesome trainer at lunch
Tuesday: 5K walk/run around the park on my lunch
Wednesday: Work out with my awesome trainer at lunch
Thursday: 5K walk/run around the park on my lunch
Friday: 5K walk/run around the park on my lunch
Saturday: Chase the kids around the cottage, swim in the lake, try to a resist the temptation to eat too many chips 🙂

Life is like that ” there are often speed bumps and curve balls that will try to get in the way of your plans, but as long as you never give up YOU WILL REACH YOUR GOALS!

    I LOVE the fruit kebob idea. I’d seen it before, but now I actually have an opportunity to make them with my kids cause they are old enough. Such cute pics! XXOO

      It’s amazing how much fruit it can inspire them to eat – I did it near the start of the party and they barely had room for anything else SCORE!

    Way to keep your routine going despite the heat wave! You’re so successful with your fitness plan because you plan ahead and have a plan B in place. Can I just say that you are my hero. You’re everything I would like to be. I can fly higher than an eagle. You are the wind beneath my wings. (totally awkward moment if you don’t know the song LOL!)

      LOL! No way – the sistahood inspires me, how can I be a cheerleader if I can’t lead by example? Becoming active in mamavation is the best thing I’ve ever done!

    I love the idea of bringing a trainer into your workplace! Great pooling of resources and great time management!

    Love the party fruit kebobs! I need to do that once a week for quick snacks for my little man, he’d love it! You are such a role model for any pregnant mama’s! I love that you are going to keep moving as long as you can!

    Wow! That is HOT! And I am in California. It was hot here as well, but not terribly so, thank goodness. I love the fruit kebobs. My son’s birthday is coming up next week and I think I will have the kids make their own fruit kebobs as well! Thanks for the idea!

    We were in that heat wave too in the NE. Hothot! I love how you make time at lunch to get with a personal trainer!
