Motivation Monday – February 1, 2010

This is my Mamavation post for February 1, 2010.

This week was very challenging because my hubby was away on business (he was in Ireland).   I was ok for the first four days he was away, but on Wednesday morning he told me that he was going to come home on Saturday for a week, then head out to LA for a week.   After LA he’ll be home for two weeks then off to Switzerland for a week.   I was handling things fine until then but then felt immediately down.   You can read the heartfelt post I wrote that day on Mom On The Run (my other blog).   Thankfully I had prepared a week’s worth of healthy meals ahead of time, so it was easier to stay on track.   PMS is kicking in too – making self-control so very hard.

This week I also had to be very flexible in fittingmy runs and workouts in.   I’ve learned that on the journey to fitness you need to be flexible – roll with the punches, listen to your body and take rest days when needed.

Monday I forgot my running shoes, so I went to the mall and bought a Taebo DVD to do at home after the kids went to bed.   I persevered and did the DVD but found the moves difficult to follow – there’s a reason why I run 🙂 it’s called coordination – or a lack there of 🙂   On Tuesday my Yoga class was cancelled, but thankfully I was prepared with all of my running gear, so I ran with my lunch time buddies instead.   Wednesday was freaking cold out and my buddies bailed on me, but I ran anyways.   Thursday was an active rest day so I did Level 1 of   The Shred (I LOVE THE SHRED).   My irls loved copying and working out with mommy – maybe i have future runners on my hands?   Friday my buddies bailed on me again because it was -18C out 😮 I seriously don’t blame them – if I wasn’t training for the half marathon I would have bailed too.   Saturday I couldn’t do my long run because Hubby was still in Ireland, so I did Level 2 of The Shred instead.   Today he’s home so I ran 10.31 K.   Again it was freaking cold out :)(-8C).   In total I ran 27.5K

I lost .7lbs this week and gained a lot of grey hair fighting with my daughters:

This week we’re completely out of food because I didn’t go shopping by myself with the munchkins.   I’m struggling to find healthy stuff left to eat, so I’m going to head out to the 24 hr grocery store after the kids go to bed.   I’m going to have to do a huge amount of cooking to make it through this week and next.

How was your week?   What were your struggles & accomplishments?

I hate being alone myself, makes for more of a conflict with food when I am emotional. I feel ya girl!! Great job on finding other means of exercise to do when something else didn’t go through. Coordination, I don’t have either! You’re doing great!!

It must be hard to have a hubby who’s out on business trips often. Your kids are adorable, don’t you love it when they work out with you? You are doing really great preparing for your marathon. Kudos to you and keep it up! — @ImAHotMom

What cuties! I can’t imagine having your husband gone like that. It would be really tough on me, too. Hope you have a great week this week with him home. It is snowing here today so it is cold here, too. I am not much of a DVD girl, I love the gym. I am working on my running. . .I actually have been running hard for 20 minutes on the treadmill. That is an accomplishment for me. Usually I do a run walk workout. Have a fabulous week!

I think it’s great that you’re missing hubby! I’ve been married 14 yrs and I still miss mine when he’s gone (even though sometimes I’d like him to go when he’s home..LOL). You just may have runners on your hands girl. My sister found some little kids funs for her daughter when she was like 4 years old. They let em run around a track for fun. My niece came back with a whole handful of flowers! LOL She runs everywhere now though!

WOW! If I were with you, I would be standing and clapping for you! It is hard to be a mommy with out your husband. Hang in there.
Keep up the rolling with the punches!

Your post was so authentic and realistic about the challenges of finding time to exercise and the importance of being flexible and creative to get in those extra steps.

My challenge is that I sit at my computer most of the day 5 days a week.

What a week, yet you persevered!! Yay!! I can’t even imagine being outside when it’s that cold (yet, I’m not good at converting celsius to farenheit so maybe it wasn’t as cold as I think?). It was cold here (for South Carolina) on Sunday morning, 26F, and we saw a woman out running when we were coming home from early church. Wow, can’t imagine. But the dedication is so inspiring! Thank you!

And here’s to a good week of healthy eating!

It can be really hard when it’s just you and the kids not to just make easy meals that are generally low on the healthy scale – keep focused and the time will pass before you know it.

I did not realize you were having to adapt so much this past week. You did a great job being flexible. Good luck getting to the grocery and replenishing your healthy food stock as a temporary single mom. You did great last week and will do so this week.

Your running impresses me. I lack coordination too but don’t do good at running either. LOL
Good luck with the meal planning. Oh and here is some encouragement. You can make it to the store with them. I go out with 3 that are 3 and under!;) You could run to keep up with them. haha

You had a lot going on this past week. Your running is inspiring. I know what you mean about coordination with workout videos though. I am a treat to watch.

I am completely uncoordinated, so I’m w/you. I think I tried the taebo years ago & even if I fall over I wanna try again. You did amazing! Plans fell thru & you made new ones. You are awesome!!!
