Motivation Monday: Changing Your Habits Will Create Future Success

Happy Monday everyone!! How was your week last week?

My week was pretty good ” I followed my triathlon training plan as best as I can (remind me to share my plan with you in another post), and began working on revising my eating habits. As well, Tuesday was my birthday, and my kids made it an awesome day!

On Monday night, my oldest daughter Sierra convinced my middle daughter Brooke to insist that I go watch her at soccer (usually my hubby goes to her games while I play with the other two at home). Sierra did this so she could drag my husband out with Amber to pick out a gift for me. Then on Tuesday morning Sierra got up early to wrap my gifts, and sign my cards (on behalf of her sisters). Then she woke me up with hugs and kisses, very excited about it being mommy’s birthday. I sleepily came downstairs and was surprised by the gifts because I had no idea they had done that for me! She is awesome and I felt so loved!

So what did they get me?

A book:

(Yes, I ‘m in the midst of reading the Fifty Shades trilogy in between reading the Hunger Games trilogy – I’ve been alternating between each trilogy, yanno, as time allows….)

And a Speaker/docking station for my iPhone and my Sierra’s iPod touch:

Why the speaker? So we can have dance parties of course!! With three daughters, dance parties are my favourite way to energize the kiddos after dinner and distract them from their desire to crash on the couch to watch TV. I love that all 3 of them can get in on the action, and none of them feels left out. I’m so glad that Sierra thought so highly of our parties that she chose a speaker for us – previously we were just using the built in speakers of the iphone/ipod. Apparently she insisted on it having dual charging capability so that we both can charge our devices up at the same time 🙂

Here’s a summary of my fitness accomplishments:

Monday: Spinning class
Tuesday: 5.5k run
Wednesday: Skipped my workout (guilt-free) for a going away lunch for my co-worker
Thursday: Spinning class
Friday: 5.5k run, 20 min swimming laps
Saturday: 6k run, 20min swimming laps
Sunday: Rest


Because I’m now officially solo parenting for the summer, this week is all about changing my habits for future success. My focus is on changing two of my habits in order to be successful:

  1. My bad “fly by the seat of my pants” habit, and
  2. my kick back, relax, draft blog posts, surf the ‘net watch TV into the wee hours of the night habit.

With hubby travelling for work, these two habits aren’t going to cut it. I can no longer head out the night before to buy food for the next day, and there is no time in the morning to make three separate breakfasts for people based on their whims before doing the daycare drop-offs. I also have to have clean laundry folded and easy to find because I have less time in the morning. Essentially with only one set of parenting hands, I have half the amount of time to accomplish things. I also find that with insufficient sleep I’m short on patience, and the less patient I am, the more the girls fight me… on.every.little.thing! So this week my focus is on planning and sleep.

With that in mind, here is my training plan for the week:

Monday: Spinning class
Tuesday: 5.5k run
Wednesday: BodyPump class
Thursday: Spinning class
Friday: 5.5k run, 20 min swimming laps
Saturday: 10k run, swimming
Sunday: BodyPump class, swimming

I really hope to report to you next week that I’ve been successful!

    I have a serious problem with habit number 2 also. I am on this computer all night long. I have set myself a goal to be off by 9:30 tonight!

    Your writing style is very similar to mine Janice and I loved this post of yours. Though I like to keep things organized and simple but I too believe that one should be flexible when it comes to making minor changes to your routine, especially the work outs. Incorporating a variety of exercises and changing the schedule every week or so saves from monotony and losing interest.
