Motivation Monday: April 11, 2011

This is my Mamavation post for Monday, April 11, 2011.

Hey everyone!

Mamavation Monday

Mamavation Monday

Wow! We’re into another campaign of Mamavation! Thank you everyone for coming out to the Twitter Launch Party on Monday – I had a lot of fun! I want to take this opportunity to congratulate our FOUR new Mamavation Moms:

It’s going to be awesome to cheer on these wonderful ladies as they work towards their health and fitness goals!

Last week was interesting for me – When I first discovered Mamavation in November of 2009, I wanted/needed to lose 16lbs.  My goal was to reach the weight I was when I got married.  After my second daughter, I just couldn’t lose that last “little” bit of pregnancy weight.  She was 2.5 at the time and I needed to start working out more regularly.  Mamavation really helped me with that – I signed up for a half-marathon and began training… Before I knew it I was half way to my goal!  I then discovered I was pregnant with our third child.  Amber was born in early November.  As many of you know, I worked out very regularly during my pregnancy and I’ve continued to do that since having Amber.  I weighed myself this week for the first time in a while…

I stepped on the scale because it was our 7 year wedding anniversary, and I was curious if I was anywhere near my goal.  I was shocked!  I haven’t been depriving myself, counting calories or even food journalling.  I’ve just been trying to eat 7-8 servings of fruits and veggies each day, while also striving to increase my water and protein intake.  With all of the healthy foods I’ve been eating there just hasn’t been room for junk.  I’ll admit though that I’m not a saint and a few Quarter Pounders have found their way into my mouth….  I’m going to start chomping and if the quarter pounder gets in my way it’s not my fault…

In all honesty, I’ve just been consistent – doing my “thing”. Bootcamp classes a few days a week and running 3-4 times a week.  It never felt like work because I’ve been doing it more for fun – the results have made me super duper happy too!

Now I need to focus on maintenance – this is where I’ve always struggled.  I get happy, fit into some old clothes and begin letting the Quarter Pounder get in the way of my mouth too often.  I still need to tone up and build strength.  Oh! and there’s also the half marathon at the end of May that I’ve signed up for.  In an effort to stay on track I’ve joined a gym with a girlfriend.  Our plan is to do the 6am Bootcamp classes three days a week (Mon, Wed, Fri).  I also will be training a client on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, followed by a run with the jogging stroller to pick up my oldest from school. I also hope to do my long training run on the weekends.

I want to thank you guys for motivating me to stay with it – before during and after my pregnancy – Thank you so much guys!

HUGE congrats! That is such a great feeling. And I agree. All it takes is consistently making good choices and working hard. It will come off with time. You proved that!

Congrats!!! That is so inspiring, especially to hear that you didn’t do it by buying info a fad diet or starving yourself; just common sense with healthy eating and exercise 🙂 that’s all there is to it! How did you manage to get all those fruit servings in?

Great question! 7-8 servings of fruits n veggies is fairly easy to attain: 1 serving is either a 1/2 a cup or 1 cup depending on the fruit or veggie. I start each day with a smoothie with a handful of spinach and a cup of berries, which puts me at 3 servings from the get go. A salad with my lunch is another 2 servings, a handful of carrots for a snack and some veggies at dinner 🙂 They’re all pretty filling too!

Congratulations! Reaching a target is not only satisfying and can be motivating. Allow yourself an occasional splurge on a Quarter Pounder, just set a limit for yourself or a tradeoff – if I eat this Quarter Pounder, I will run an extra 1/2 mile tonight or whatever. That way, even when you do splurge, you don’t have to feel as guilty. I find that feeling guilty can lead to more eating…so just don’t feel guilty.

That’s awesome! I hope to never see my wedding weight again except in the 9th month of pregnancy (and maybe not even then!) 🙂

    Have a great week!
