Mamavation Monday – July 25, 2011

Hi everyone – Happy Monday! This is my Mamavation Monday post for July 25, 2011.

Last week was a far from normal kind of week (ok, is there really such a thing as a “normal” week?). The “big” girls had summer day camp every day, leaving me home with Amber. My plans were to push her in the jogger every morning, then do a Nike Training Club workout while she napped. I also had grand plans of cleaning the whole house….

Monday I rocked and nursed an inconsolable Amber for over 4 hours. Monday night and Tuesday morning she was still Miss Grumpy-pants so I took her to the Doctor on Tuesday morning. Turns out she had a double ear infection and a throat infection. Tuesday we rocked and nursed all day again, but with the encouragement of my Fit Friends Running Rachel, and Middle-Aged Jock I did manage to work out my crankies with a quick 30-min Nike Training Club workout. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I swam laps in the pool and Saturday was a “rest” day. I actually spent Saturday throwing my middle daughter a belated 4th birthday Hawaiian Luau Party complete with leis, grass skirts, mango salsa, grilled pineapple, pulled pork and umbrella drinks (so fun!)

Amber & I

Sunday I went to an awesome BodyPump class – the instructor had a lot of energy and as a result the energy in the class was high. I love that! After BodyPump I jumped in the pool and swam laps again, and spent a quiet day with my family.

I’m “supposed” to be training for the Toronto Waterfront Half-Marathon so last night I took @aries_mommy’s advice from the Bookieboo.com Forums and slept in my gym clothes last night, and put my phone (which doubles as my alarm clock) on the other side of the bedroom so I could get up… It worked! I ran 5k EARLY this morning.

This week my plans are inspired by this quote:

Make your feet your friend. ~J.M. Barrie

I’m going to run on Wed, Fri & Sat this week, do the Nike Training Club app on Tuesday & Thursday and BodyPump Sunday.

Non-scale Victory… I FINALLY had perfect balance on the Wii Fit!!

Little known fact: Balance is an over-looked part of health and longevity. A lack of balance and body awareness (also called proprioception) in older adults leads to falls, injuries and loss of mobility. A loss of mobility leads to depression and weight gain – a startling fact is that a lot of those people who lose their mobility die within 5 years. Thankfully an active lifestyle helps to preserve balance!

QUESTION: What are YOUR plans for this week? What victories did YOU achieve?

Have a very good week my friends!
