Motivation Monday: A Dream Doesn ‘t Become Reality Through Magic

Hey guys!   How are you?   How was your week?  

This past week has been amazing!Because I was Ã…”tapering  for my race and not spending my lunch hours running, I’ve had lots of Ã…”free  time to enjoy life ” which has been totally awesome! (And very much needed).

Monday – I went to spinning class with my co-worker and had a great spin. I managed to spin the furthest distance to date during that class. It could partially be because I actually arrived on-time ….
Tuesday   ” I soaked my running gear on Monday night to remove the stink, and forgot to rinse it and put it in the dryer, so I couldn’t run. Because it was Ã…”taper  week, I used to opportunity to relax at lunch. (I think I need another pair of running tights that don’t fall down – I have one new pair that wear ofr all of my runs, and my old ones have lost their elasticity so they fall down).
Wednesday   ” BodyPump class with my co-worker. I tried to lift more weight than normal ” It went fairly well and will need to stick to the heavier weights for awhile and work up to being able to do all of the sets and reps with the new weights.
Thursday ” Let my co-workers twist my rubber arm into going for lunch with them ” it was really fun to enjoy some social time at lunch instead of working out. I considered it my reward for four long months of working hard.
Friday   ” Still forgot to dry my running clothes, so I went on a nice walk with one of my co-workers at lunch.
Saturday ” Race kit pick up day!
Sunday ” Race day!

Saturday … Saturday was awesome!

I drove 40 min with Amber to Burlington to meet Krysten (@darwinianfail) at the race expo and race kit pick up. Krysten  is a fellow FitFluential  Ambassador who I connected with over twitter because we were doing the same race. Over the past few weeks of supporting each other’s training via twitter, dailymile, facebook and her blog (The Misadventures of a Darwinian Fail), I’ve come to realize that Krysten  is a truly inspiring person. Krysten  has a pacemaker, but hasn’t let that stop her from reaching for her running goals, as well, today as I write this, she is in surgery having her pacemaker replaced AND a double mastectomy, and breast reconstruction because she tested positive for BRCA1 (the gene that causes breast cancer). She is one brave, and strong young lady.

Despite everything that Krysten  has going on this week with the race and surgery, she agreed to meet me and have brunch at Pepperwood  Bistro where I learned that she is as beautiful inside as she is outside. We talked, we laughed, we shared stories, we had a great breakfast together, and we managed to remember to take a picture of us together:

Sunday was race day and I had a fantastic race!

It was very cold (the windchill made it feel like 15F) and the wind was blowing at 15mph. Not exactly ideal weather conditions for aiming for a personal best …. But guess what? I did it!!!! I did the work, followed my training plan and was rewarded with a new PERSONAL BEST! I finished the Chilly Half Marathon in 1:52:47. (I promise that tomorrow I ‘ll post my full race report.) The best part of the whole race was my surprise fans! My hubby bundled the kids up and drove them the 40 min to cheer me on in the cold at the finish line:

As I recover today from yesterday’s race, my mind is starting to think towards new dreams and how I can make them happen with sweat, determination and hard work. I ‘m starting off with a recovery day, and proper nutrition to re-fuel my muscles that worked so hard yesterday, with the leftover Black bean and Quinoa Salad I made for the Mamavation Healthy Food Friday  linky:

My next goal is the Around The Bay 30k Road Race in Hamilton, ON, so after today it’s back to training:

 Tuesday –  5k easy run
Wednesday ” BodyPump
Thursday ” 8k easy
Friday ” 5k Easy
Saturday or Sunday ” 20k (the other day will be rest)

    It’s true a dream won’t become reality by itself. It requires action, planning and self discipline.

    Congrats on the half and your PR!
    And I love the sign at the end of this post… so many people think things like half-marathons, blogging, writing a book, etc. just happen without realizing all the blood, sweat and tears one puts into it.

I read about your accident and return to running in a fitness magazine (or was it Runner’s World?) awhile ago and was very inspired by your determination – I’m honoured that you found my blog 🙂 I actually think I’ve read a few of your posts on your old blog (on blogspot?) as well.
