If we were having coffee

Wow, would you look at that, it’s October already!! How quick the months fly by!  Summer was amazing, but isn’t it always?  Now that it’s fall I’m loving my booties, scarves, long sweaters and… COFFEE!!  Because today is the first Saturday of the month it means it’s time again to link up with my friends Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date and to share with you the latest things happening in my life.

If we were having coffee…

I would tell you that with running consistency I have begun to find myself again.  I feel happier than I have in a few years.  I need to figure out how to remember this through winter when it gets cold out and I don’t want to run.  I’ll have to force myself to get out there.  My plan to run 3 times a week, then four times a week, now five times a week has been really good for my mental health. I don’t put much emphasis on distance or pace, just on getting out there 4-5 times a week.  I even give myself permission to do a walk/run if that is where my body is on that day.  It’s helped me tremendously. Happy Meme

I would tell you that we’re full swing into the girls’ hockey seasons now.  I used to *hate* hockey and being in the arenas but now that I understand hockey, what each player is supposed to be doing etc, it doesn’t seem so bad.  I say that now but I’m sure my tune will change in a few months when all I’ve done is hang out in arenas.  My youngest daughter spends a lot of time with me hanging out while her sisters are on the ice so we’ve been exploring other things to do near their arenas, or even at their arenas.  Last weekend we went on a long hike, this week we went to the McDonald’s play place (and didn’t buy anything!), sometimes we do her home reading, and sometimes we watch a movie together on Netflix on the ipad.  Unfortunately hockey season has turned the house into a complete disaster because I’m the ONLY one who does ANY cleaning around here and I haven’t been home!

I would tell you that this is the long holiday Thanksgiving weekend in Canada.  Today I’m going to clean the house (UGH!) and then go run off the cranky.  Tomorrow I want to paint my bedroom and update it (finally!) sneak in a HIIT kettlebell workout, and on Monday I want to sneak out to the trails for a trail run.  We’ll be meeting my parents, brother and his wife for dinner Sunday night, and having dinner with my bestie on Monday night.  It’s her birthday so we’ll have to figure out a way to make it special!  My family is still sleeping as I write this post, but it’s raining otherwise I would be out on the trails now.  

(My 6 year old says: Mom, did that cat eat a turkey?!?)

I’m super happy with the somewhat cooler fall weather.  Running has felt generally easier (though some days it has still been super hot).  I’ve built up a lot of endurance by running consistently so I can 5 miles pretty much non-stop and my paces are improving. Last month was a pretty good month of running (104 km) and I’m hoping to run even more this month.

(I’m super sad that there are no more Ragnar races in my future until late next year 🙁 )

If we were having coffee…

I would tell you that I’m extra excited for my Punta Cana trip for my University Roommate’s wedding because I just got ANOTHER wedding invitation in the mail… This one is for my best friend since kindergarten’s wedding, and it’s also in Punta Cana! What are the odds of that?!?  Since I’ve already booked my trip I’ll miss my childhood bestie’s ceremony, but will be arriving there in time to spend two evenings and a day with her on the beach.  The weddings aren’t until the end of April, so there’s still lots of time, but I’m now even more motivated to lose some body fat before my trip – bring on all the HIIT training!!

Thanks to the super loud man-hole/sewer cleaning machine thing cleaning out whatever it cleans out at 7:30 am on a Saturday, my youngest is up so I have some cuddling to do.  Have a great month everyone, and thanks for stopping by!

    Wow, it’s not even winter yet and I’d love to be going to Punta Cana – so gorgeous. Happy Thanksgiving!

    Could not pass up a trip to Punta Cana that sounds like a blast. Good for you on getting your running days back up. I always feel better when I am running consistently. It does wonders for my mood! Thanks for joining us for coffee today

    Wow, that’s a lot of arena time LOL We don’t see much hockey action in Iowa, unless we catch it on tv (and even that’s rare).

      You have no idea how lucky you are – I literally spend at least 10-15 hours a week at arenas!

    I’m glad your running consistency has come back! I need to get back to a regular lifting schedule!

    I love fall–super excited for fall foods and such, but not so much looking forward to the impending cold weather! I hope you have a ton of fun on your trip!! <3

    I do think running consistently the last couple of years has made a big difference for me. Although 4 x week is fine by me.

    It’s nice that you get to spend some quality time with your youngest while her sisters are practicing. Happy Thanksgiving AND birthday!

    Sounds like Punta Cana is the place to be! haha I’ve always wanted to run a Ragnar – I need to get a group together and try it. Try to not eat TOO much for Thanksgiving 🙂

    So fun that you still have weddings to go to- My friends are all married I think, so next will probably be their kids!! I love your running mojo idea of just feeling what your body wants to do- sounds like a good plan!

      Thanks! Actually we’re starting back around, these are both second marriages. In another 10-15 years our kids will all be getting married. So many weddings! 🤷🏼‍♀️

    I’d goto Punta Cana, sounds like an awesome time!!! I feel the same way about running in Fall/Spring but when weather is too cold or hot, I am a stranger to running 😛

    Wow! That is crazy that you have 2 friends getting married so close to each other in the same location. That will be such a fun trip for you!! My sister’s family is a hockey family. She plays in an adult league as well, so it’s pretty much hockey all the time. All her kids are grown now, but I enjoyed going to an occasional game of hers or her kids when then were little. Now sure I’d be OK with going to them all, though. 🙂 Great job with your running consistency and finding your happy place.
