Lose More Weight By Weighing In Less!

Yes – you read that right.  You can lose MORE weight if you weigh in LESS!

You see while the scale does not lie, it also doesn’t tell the whole story either – there are lots of factors that cause your weight to fluctuate. ie:

  • Your monthly cycle
  • Water retention
  • Muscle gain

The scale also does not take into account body fat percentages either.  Perhaps your new exercise program has caused you to gain muscle?  Because muscle weighs more than fat, the scale won’t show you the change in your body composition.  A scale that gauges body fat is also not an accurate measure because hydration levels impact that as well.

The real problem I have with the scale is not the number it spits out, instead its the emotional reaction to that number.  Perhaps you experienced a loss – do you celebrate it?  What do you celebrate it with?  Food?  Or on the other side, perhaps you experienced a gain.  How do react to that?  Do you feel unhappy?  Sad? Defeated.  Would seeing a gain every week for a few weeks cause you to abandon your efforts?

Ditch the scale!

This is why I no longer have a scale with the exception of my Wii Fit.  I weigh myself monthly with my wii, and generally can tell by the way my clothes fit whether I’ll see a gain or a loss. I was far too emotionally attached to my scale.  A 1lb gain and I’d be irritable all day, and deprive myself.  A 1lb loss and I was ecstatic – rejoicing with the chocolate and ice cream I had been depriving myself of.

Then about a year ago I broke free.  FREE! I took the batteries out of the scale.  Hubby thought it was broken so he threw it out.  Guess what?  I’ve lost far more weight and was better able to have a moderate gain during my pregnancy as a result.

If you truly NEED to gauge your progress, then perhaps try a  MyoTape Body Tape Measure. It’s an easy to use vinyl measuring tape.  I have one, and seeing the inches melt away is far more motivating than the scale fluctuations.

I honestly believe that the scale can sabotage your efforts.  I dare you to take a month long break from it.  Take the batteries out, hide it, put it in a hard to reach place,  Whatever you do, just don’t use it – you’ll be amazed by the results you’ll see in a month.
