The Joy and Pain of Running a Marathon (in Pictures)

Wow – I’m not sure which is more fried from the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, my brain or my body?  Either way, I just don’t have it in me yet to share with you my full marathon recap (though I promise I’ll do that for you early next week).  In the mean time I’d like to share with you the pictures from the race.  The race photographers from www.marathon-photos.com did such an awesome job of being in just the right spot to capture all the joy and pain of running a marathon that I just couldn’t resist sharing them with you here, along with a few other pictures that I took myself:

Here I am excitedly waiting in the corral with my best running friend, Juliette.  She was a trooper and ran the first half of the race with me.

The wait to cross the start line was so long!

Here we are at 15k – just before Juliette and I lost each other.IMG_8217.JPG

Half way – I got this!

Somewhere near 30k – this is easy this is fun….

I have no idea where this was taken but apparently I was still having fun…

39k – I can’t do it. How am I ever going to get home?!?

Screw it – I’ll just walk the rest of the way.

40k – I think I can, I think I can….

B0bxqkoIAAAz9wC(Is that guy’s name actually Connie?)

41k – One foot in front of the other… keep going!

42k – There’s the finish line!  Wave to the camera….

Yeeeeaaahhhh!!!!!! I did it!!!

Finished!!  Official chip time: 4:26:38

Tears of complete happiness.

Happy selfie.

Officially a marathoner!

Awesome!! I love this! I’m embarking on my first full in December and have already had a couple of tough long runs (mentally). It’s that feeling of accomplishment at the end that helps though!

Okay, I LOVED this recap. It was so great seeing all those pictures at different points. I think my faces and stages are going to be very similar to this. Again a HUGE congratulations to you. You are amazing!

Thanks Jen! I think all of these stages were because I was undertrained and not well nourished. I’m already planning my marathon revenge. I hope you do MUCH better and run a SMARTER race – I went out far too fast.

Congratulations, that’s a fantastic achievement. I ran the London marathon in 2009 and the sense of achievement when you cross the finish line is almost overwhelming. Saying that, I haven’t been tempted to do another one purely because of all of the training you need to do beforehand.
