The Road to Boston: Weeks 7, 8 and 9 Recap and the Plan for Week 10

run this year

Happy New Year everyone! I hope that you all had a great holiday, and enjoyed some rest and relaxation and time with your families. Things around here are now full-speed ahead! The kids are back in school, the extra-curricular hockey, gymnastics and swimming have resumed and I'm back to work. I took a week off of work as our office shuts down for a week, but other than that I didn't take any additional time off because I'm building up my vacation time. This year the hubby and I will be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary (hopefully with a trip somewhere *fingers crossed*).

Looking back on my blog archives I realise that I've been slacking off on reporting my Road to Boston progress. This might be because there really hasn't been much to report. I stayed active through Christmas by going sledding with the girls numerous times, and going roller blading, but there hasn't been much going on in the running department.

Week 7:
Mon, Tues, Wed = ??? I think I went to BodyPump on Wednesday but I can't remember.
Thursday: 6k
Friday: 6k
Total: 12k

Week 8:
Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri = Went sledding on Wednesday, rollerblading on Thursday, and more sledding on Friday
Saturday: 5k
Sunday: 7 k
Total: 12k

Week 9:
Tuesday: 7k
Thursday: 25k spinning
Friday: BodyPump/Core Workout
Saturday: 10 K
Sunday: 8k
Total: 25k

Total for weeks 7, 8 and 9: 49k

9 week total: 194k

Now that the holidays are over, and our routines are “back to normal”, it's time for me to get settled back into my training. The 1 month of free coaching that I was receiving from Team All-American is now over. That didn't go as well as I had hoped, though I enjoyed doing the more challenging workouts on the plan. I may either resume that coaching or search for a new coach. In the mean time I joined the Run This Year group as I hope to run 2014 km this year (which is more than double how much I ran last year). This group was started by Tiffany, aka Running Hutch and is super motivational, even if you don't plan on running the year in miles or kilometers. I also heard through my friend Rachel that Tiffany is a great running coach, I may have to look into this a bit more as I do need help figuring out how to balance my competing goals of triathlon and marathon training into a training plan that helps me to reach peak physical shape for both.

Without a coach, here's the plan that I've come up with for myself this week. The weather will be super cold (-25C with a windchill that's forecasted to be close to -40C), so my plan has me sleeping in and fully taking advantage of my gym membership at GoodLife Fitness (stay tuned, I have an awesome giveaway for a gym membership at GoodLife coming up on the blog later this week!).

Monday: Fullbody Kettlebell workout
Tuesday: 8k running – dreadmill at GoodLife – this is going to be AWFUL because I hate the dreadmill.
Wednesday: lunch BodyPump class at GoodLife
Thursday: lunch Spinning class at GoodLife
Friday: lunch BodyPump/Core Strengthening class at GoodLife
Saturday: 15k long run
Sunday: 10 k run

Total planned km: 33k

All in all, the training is coming along well and I'm happy to report that since my post back in late September complaining about my weight gain I've lost 5lbs! I weighed myself on Thursday for the first time since September and was pleased to learn that I'm getting closer to my ideal racing weight which is a nice step towards reaching my Boston goal.

Have a great week everyone!!

Question: Did you take any time off from work at Christmas?
Do you have any 2014 vacation plans?

I hate the dread mill too. So much worse than running outside.
I’d run 10 outside before I’d run 5 inside any day.

I did 9 on the dreadmill this weekend – exactly two episodes of The Good Wife! Those gym classes look fun. I have a hard time escaping work at lunch, and then I hate showering again!

Wow!! I couldn’t imagine 9 miles on the dreadmill! That must be a great show 🙂
