More Ambition than Brains

So last fall the kind people from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada approached myself to write about the VIP program for the Becel Ride for Heart on my blog. VIP’s (Very Important Philanthropists) commit to raising $1000 and to do the bike ride. The SEVENTY FIVE KILOMETERE bike ride THIS weekend in Toronto up the Don Valley Parkway (Yes, I said UP ” if you’ve ever been to Toronto and driven down the Don Valley, then you know how steep that hill is. Now picture riding a bike up that hill.). At the time they approached me I was seriously considering doing a ½ Ironman distance Triathlon this summer, and I thought Ã…”Hey! A 75 k ride a month before the triathlon would be a great way to force me to train . So I signed up and committed to raising $1000 and to doing the bike ride.

Now this is where my hubby would tell you that I have far more ambition than brains.

I don’t have a bike. I ‘m not the biggest fan of cycling. And I hate begging people to sponsor me.

But this is for such a good cause!!

And this is why it’s only 5 short days until the Ride for Heart and I’ve found myself in an awkward position – Begging someone to lend me a bike:

So I can do a ridiculously long bike ride (I anticipate that it will take me 4 hours) that I haven’t trained for, save for the 45 min spinning class I’ve gone to every Monday since November in anticipation of this.

Oh and begging you to sponsor me too.

So far I’ve raised $315 for this very worthy cause. (Thank you to everyone who has already sponsored me!).

We all know someone who has benefitted from the research into cardiovascular disease that the Heart and Stroke Foundation has funded. We all know someone who is still alive today because of emergency heart surgery, or other cardiovascular surgery. Grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles etc. We all know someone whose surgery was made possible by the research funded by the Heart and Stroke Foundation. So on Sunday I ‘ll be riding the 75k Ride for Heart on a borrowed bike (thank you Rosemary for lending me your bike!) to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation so that they can continue the great work that they do ” will you sponsor me? Please?

Thank you!!

All the best in health and fitness,

Do you want to borrow my bike? I’m going to be in your area on Saturday on my way to Windsor for my 10k, so I can drop it off with you if you like? The only bad thing about it is that it’s a mountain bike :s

    Let me know.
