What I’m Thankful For (An Ode to My Body)

Dear Body,

Thank you very much for all that you’ve given me – I don’t deserve it, but thank you. Through your hard work I’ve been able to accomplish some amazing feats.

The legs you have given me have propelled me along many miles of road, in fact they’ve propelled me through NINE half marathons, THREE full marathons and even allowed me to complete TWO Triathlons. I’ve gained a lot of self confidence and happiness from the running you’ve allowed me to do. I have met many IRL friends and even bloggy friends through my running. For that I’m so grateful.

You have also allowed me to do things that I can only describe as miraculous. You have nourished and grown THREE beautiful little girls. My pregnancies were relatively easy, and you are a ROCKSTAR when it comes to giving birth and producing milk! Perhaps one day you will be so gracious as to share your gift to another couple by being a surrogate, or by supplementing a preemie baby. In the mean time you are busy making milkies for the wonderful young, Amber.

I often feel I don’t deserve your kindness. I don’t always treat you as well as I should. Perhaps I should provide you with better fuel, water, more rest and the exercise you crave and thrive on. For you have served me well, and it’s time for me to return the kindness. Yes – I am pledging to provide you with more fruit, veggies, and protein, and less processed crap (“processed oil cheese-like product” aka Nacho Cheese). I can do better for you, I know I can. It’s the only way I know how to thank you for all that you’ve done for me.

    Isn’t there something so empowering in writing a love letter to your body? It starts off feeling odd but then you realize exactly how awesome it is and can keep going on! I am so thankful to my body for my health, my children, and that it still treats me well even after years of abuse. Hope you have a good day!
