5 Reasons to Hug a Runner #GOHARD

* This is not a sponsored post. I came across this event on my own and felt that this was important and that I had to share it.

Today is Globally Organized Hug A Runner Day aka GOHARD.  It’s a real thing, I didn’t just make this up just to get hugs (though if you want to hug me then go right ahead 🙂 ).  GOHARD is a virtual run/event that raises money for Girls on the Run.  Girls on the Run is an organization that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running.
From the Girls on the Run website:

Girls on the Run (GOTR) offers two programs for girls aged 8-13 which combine an interactive curriculum developing self-respect and healthy lifestyles, with training for a non-competitive 5k run/walk. The curriculum address many aspects of girls’ development and provides participants with the tools they need to make positive decisions and avoid risky adolescent behaviours.

Here's a great big sweaty runner hug from me to you, it's Globally Organized Hug A Runner day! #GOHARD. Here are 5 more reasons why you should hug a runner today.

This is a fantastic organization!  I grew up in a not-so-nice area of Scarborough, ON called Malvern.  There were gangs, alcohol, teen pregnancy and if you wanted drugs you knew exactly who to get them from.  But I didn’t want those things because I knew they would interfere with my sports. My parents kept me safe and out of trouble by keeping me busy with softball, bowling, field hockey, track, cross-country running etc.  That approach made me the woman I am today, and kept me safe from the crap that went on where we lived.  It’s also the same approach my husband and I are taking with our girls (hockey, softball, soccer, and swimming).  It worked for me, and Girls on the Run is making it work for thousands of other girls across the US and even in Canada too!

To celebrate Globally Organized Hug A Runner Day, I’m registered in the Virtual Run (100% of the proceeds from registration ($5.95) go directly to Girls on the Run).

I also wanted to share with you 5 reasons why you should hug a runner:

  1. Although we’re really sweaty, we’re also really cute.
  2. We always hug back.  Even though we look like we may run away, we really are quite cuddly people and enjoy a great hug.
  3. Sweaty runner hugs are awesome, they are.  Go hug a runner and find out for yourself.
  4. You never know when a runner may return the favour.  We’re really supportive and caring people.
  5. It helps to support Girls on the Run.
