My Favourite Strength Workout

Hey guys! Can you believe that it’s Day 7 of the September Blogging Challenge already? How are you keeping up? I ‘m finding it a little harder this month than last because the kids are back to school and our Fall extra-curricular activities are starting already! Last night my middle daughter had skating lessons, tonight we have swimming lessons and tomorrow is gymnastics classes for all three. Organizing all of the gear for all of their activities is the fun part…

Today our Blogging Challenge topic is:

What’s your favourite strength workout?

Mine by far is the clean and press – there’s something so empowering about that move. It makes me feel like a hardcore weight lifter whenever I do it. I also like that it’s nearly impossible to do with not enough weight. When you don’t have enough weight on your bar, you end up swinging it around like crazy, so it’s easy to know when it’s time to progress to a heavier weight.

That all said, I don’t go to the gym and just lift. I don’t really push myself hard enough when I do that, and for me to get a full body strength workout in it would take me well over an hour because I’m so easily distracted just people watching 🙂 This is why I prefer going to BodyPump classes – I can do two or three of these classes in a week to get a full body strength workout in, and they’re fun! My favourite part of class is the back track (because we do clean and presses).

Here’s a sample of what BodyPump class is like:

I cannot wait to try it!! Could you imagine pairing that with the lunge track from the most recent release? The plyometrics in that one are killer!
Hey – how would one go about becoming certified to instruct BodyPump?

This looks like SO much fun! I’m a weight lifter and I always thought those Body Pump classes were like Aerobics classes.. just girls getting out there to think they’re working out hard and looking cute. But this looks AWESOME. I’m super inspired to look more into it!! I’d love to be an instructor!

BodyPump is awesome! Especially if you put enough weight on the bar. You should definitely try it!

Any olympic lift are always great strength exercises for me. You feel like you can overcome any task after you do them. If i could only pick one, it’d be the power clean. Always fun to bring a bag of chalk with you too!
