Happy Monday everyone! Here in Canada it feels like Sunday night because today was a holiday known as the “Civic Holiday“. The first Monday in August is observed as a holiday in most of the Canadian Provinces though there isn’t any consistency in what to call the holiday, nor is there any consistency in what’s being celebrated. As for me, I enjoyed a weekend of being surrounded by friends and family.
On Friday night I helped Sierra’s softball team’s practice by running a drill with the pitchers and catchers – I was teaching them how to make the play at home when an opposing player tries to steal home on a passed pitch. Then Saturday I went for a 16k run with Juliette, then I took Miss Amber to the farmers market for a date with mommy. I gave her some money that she spent on organic popcorn and some locally grown grapes.
After our Farmers Market date with hosted friends in the backyard to swim with us. The whole time we were swimming, my husband was with my oldest daughter Sierra at a Blue Jays game with her softball team. She had a fantastic time because she was picked to be the Jr. Jays DJ during the break between the top and bottom of the 1st inning. She was super excited because she was on the Jumbotron and she got a special Blue Jays hat, T-shirt and a baseball autographed by her favourite player, Russell Martin!
Later that evening we attended a BBQ at my neighbour Juliette’s house. It was a lot of fun watching the three teams square off in the annual Burger Throwdown. We take this pretty serious because there’s even a trophy!
(This is the jalapeño popper burger stuffed with cream cheese and jalapeños with red pepper jelly and garlic mayonnaise).
We didn’t stay late at the BBQ because Sierra had an early softball tournament in a town an hour’s drive from our house. I got up with her two little sisters to go watch my star catcher play her first two games.
What made the games even more enjoyable was seeing my two best highschool friends. O and K live near the diamonds Sierra was playing at so they came to watch. It was really nice to see them and I really wish that they lived closer.
After two games I took my youngest two daughters home for more pool time with friends. I managed to sneak in a little kettlebell workout on the pool deck watching the kiddos swim. That evening Juliette and her family brought their BBQ leftovers over for dinner at our house. Unfortunately we were hit with a thunderstorm right as hubby fired up the BBQ to heat up the leftovers.
On Monday Juliette and I went for a 6k run to Laura’s house, then walked 5k back home with her. Juliette then drove Laura home. After that I got caught up on some laundry, had lunch, then went to Laura’s to help with the tying ribbons on the gifts for her wedding. I can’t believe her weddding is this coming weekend! It seems like just yesterday she asked me to be in her wedding. It’s going to be so much fun!
After the ribbon tying, 5 families got together to play 3 innings of a fun softball game. We all had a lot of fun, especially wee Amber as it was her first time ever trying to bat and play.
Then tonight we just had a quiet night at home doing a whole lot of nothing which we felt that we totally deserved after such a busy weekend. The girls watched some Netflix and I played on my laptop (and wrote this post). All in all we had a fantastic weekend with lots of activity and good times.
How was your weekend? What did you do?
